Zia lost 58 pounds. When she discovered some tagged photos of herself and didn’t recognize the girl in the pictures, she knew it was time to make some changes. She stopped turning to food for comfort and worked to create a healthier lifestyle.
This before photo is from six years ago. I was turning to food for comfort and constantly dealing with TOXIC friendships and relationships. I was putting everyone first and forgot myself. I got so tired of how I felt when I would go up a flight of stairs or even walking, I felt like gravity was winning, but I overcame it all. I started to work out, and I cut out unnatural sugars and carbs. Before I knew it, I was 50+ pounds lighter and happier. The best love is self-love. Go find it! I promise you won’t regret it.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
I’ve always been confident regardless of my size, but my journey started when I discovered tagged pictures of myself. I couldn’t recognize the girl in the photo. I was so disappointed that I allowed myself to get to that point. I suddenly became motivated and determined to lose weight and become healthier.
How did you change your eating habits?
I began by cutting out fried foods, sodas, sugar-filled pastries, and heavy carbs after 4 pm. I started eating more vegetables and protein, as well as consuming more water throughout the day.
What did your workout routine look like? How often did you workout?
My workouts would consist of cardio for the first couple of months. I worked out 3-4 times a week. Once I built up more stamina, I was able to incorporate strength training 1-2 times a week, which really allowed me to tone my body.
What was your starting weight? What’s your current weight?
My starting weight was 210 pounds, and my current weight is 152 pounds.
What is your height?
5’3″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in 2012. It took me six months to see significant physical changes.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I lost all my weight naturally by working out and incorporating proper nutrition.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned throughout this journey is consistency. Nothing great happens overnight. We all want results now. However, putting in the work every day, little by little, will get you to your goals undoubtedly.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
My advice to anyone starting their journey: Do not give up. No matter how hard it may be, push yourself to become the best version of you.
