Transforming for Better Health: Yvonne lost 91 pounds. She decided to have the gastric sleeve procedure. No longer held down by health issues, she has embraced a love for fitness and working out. At 53 years young, she is claiming her victory.
On October 5, 2015, I had gastric sleeve weight loss surgery after year of struggling. 3 months later, I joined the gym. Working out at the gym was something I’d never done in my life and now I can’t get enough. So far, My doctor says that he don’t see any reason for skin surgery because of the elasticity of my skin. There is little or no flab. Before my surgery, I had to take so much mediation. I was pre diabetic, using a sleep aide machine and dealing with fibroids. Today, I feel and look younger.
What was your motivation?
My motivation came after I had a heart attack. I was also inspired by mother who wanted to see all her children succesed to the fullest.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by eating in moderation, watching my portions and counting calories. I stopped eating most starchy foods and started eating more fruits and vegetables. I also drink more water.
How did you change your exercise habits?
I workout at the gym at least 3 times a week. I’m lifting weights, taking Zumba class and just trying out all equipment that is viable. I am working hard to loose another 35 pounds.
Starting and Current Weight
My starting weight was 303 pounds and my current weight is 212 pounds. My height is 5’7″ and my transformation has taken about seven months.
What advice would you offer to others?
My advice is to eat wisely and know when you are full. I also suggest making exercise apart of your routine. I cry out to my black sisters telling them to believe that they too can make a serious change. This is no quick fix. You have to to make a lifestyle change step by step.
