Transformation of the Day: Yesenia lost 114 pounds. When she weighed in at 284 pounds, she decided that that was too close to 300 lbs for comfort. This mom got excellent results by counting calories, trying new recipes and walking for exercise. Check out her story.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was myself. I was in complete denial how much I weighed. In my mind, I was maybe 240 pounds. So, one morning I got up and weighed myself. The scale said 284 pounds. I just started crying. I didn’t think I was that close to 300 pounds. That day, I decided to do something about it. I started watching what I ate and only drinking water. Sometimes, when I would gain a pound, I would get discouraged. However, I knew that if I quit I would have to start all over again. I was determined to lose this weight.
How did you change your eating habits?
I was drinking a lot of juice, so I stopped all of that. I started logging my calories with the My Fitness Pal app. In the beginning, I was eating 1300 calories and I wasn’t working out. I lost my first 80 pounds through just diet alone. I was measuring all of food and trying new recipes. Whatever I cook was what my family eats. I make a full menu for the week and I make a grocery list. I now eat between 1500 to 1600 calories per day since I am more active now.
What did your workout routines look like?
I didn’t workout at first, but now I do. I workout at home with Leslie Sansone Walk at Home DVDs. I started doing her videos on YouTube and then I started buying her DVDs. I love her workouts. When the weather is nice, I try to walk outside instead.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 284 pounds and now I weigh 170 pounds. My height is 5’4″.
When did you start your journey?
I started on September 6, 2015. It has taken me a year and half.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Don’t overwhelm yourself take it a day at a time and a pound at a time. After I lost a pound then I would focus on the next pound and so on.
