Transformation of the Day: Whitney lost 170 pounds. This mom focused on her children and what she wanted for herself as she took action to change her life. She had gastric bypass weight loss surgery, exercised daily, and practiced intermittent fasting.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My children and I are my only motivation. Even when I wanted to give all the way up, I just told myself that all of this would have been for nothing. So I pushed forward. I didn’t put this weight on overnight, so weight loss was not going to happen overnight.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
My journey started in May 2019. I’m still transforming, but the bulk of it took 18 months.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I had gastric bypass weight loss surgery in May 2019. I was projected to lose 113 pounds max with the surgery. I have lost 170 pounds so far, and I am still losing.
Surgery does help, but it is not a fix-all. You still have to work hard. The only restriction is not being able to eat as much. (some have other restrictions after the surgery). So it is not easy, but it does help.
How did you change your eating habits?
I tried the no carbs thing, but it didn’t work for me all the way, lol. I do love carbs, but I have them in moderation. I didn’t want to deprive myself of the things I wanted because I’ve done that before. Previously, I lost weight and gained it all back once I had a taste for everything I deprived myself of. Now I eat what I want (to an extent) in moderation.
My intermittent fasting schedule is 16:8. I have yet to move on to 18:6 (on purpose). Sometimes, I go past my fasting window, but I haven’t committed fully to 18:6.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
My workout routine? Honestly, I just walk. I started walking in place in my room at the start of Covid-19. Then, I went out and walked at a local high school track. I would walk for an hour or until I hit 1000 calories burned (whichever came first). I also watch Tiffany Rothe, Lucy Wyndham-Read, and Susana Yabar on YouTube for home workouts.
I used to work out daily for about 40 minutes. Since going back to work, I get in maybe 20 minutes every other day.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 414 pounds. My current weight is 244 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 6 feet tall.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson is willpower. I tell myself, “You don’t really need to eat that.” or “You should try to get in a 5-minute workout right now.”
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Don’t put off your journey until Monday. Start right now. Also, if you fall off at any time, Start over on your next meal. Start over right now. Don’t put it off.
