Update 10/30: Thank you so much for voting in the poll!!! The results are in!!
Original post 10/25 ——————————————————
Ladies, it’s time to weigh-in on what our November Challenge should be. I’ve included 2 book club challenges where we would read along together and impliment the book suggestions as part of the challenge. You will find the poll below.
Ada’s Rules: A Sexy Skinny Novel – For this challenge we would be reading about and then using Ada’s rules to help us with our weight loss. – Ada’s Rules, the story of a black preacher’s wife who has 100 pounds to lose and maybe a cheating husband provides 53 principles for a personal health and beauty revival. A funny novel about serious subjects, from diabetes and obesity to infidelity, it provides a road map that any reader can follow to create change in their own lives and in the world. And it may just be the secret weapon we need to help us all balance the national health budget. Readers will see Ada in themselves as she perseveres through the joys and pains that come with being a loving parent, daughter, wife, friend, and community member pushing for change. Join Ada’s Army. Be one of the readers shifting the shape of the future one body at a time.
Eat to Live – For this challenge we would follow the plan outlined in the book – The Eat To Live 2011 revised edition includes lots of new success stories from readers of the original book, plus a brand new chapter highlighting Dr. Fuhrman’s discovery of toxic hunger and the role of food addiction in weight issues. This new chapter provides novel and important insights into weight gain, and explains how and why a diet of high micronutrient quality leads to the sensation of true hunger and maintenance of a healthy weight. It instructs readers on how to leave behind the discomfort of toxic hunger, cravings, and addictions to unhealthy foods.
Other updates include:
- New recipes and meal ideas
- Inspiring success stories from people who have used the program to lose shockingly large amounts of weight and recover from life-threatening illnesses
- New and revised Frequently Asked Questions
- All references and material reviewed and updated to reflect current research and knowledge in the field of nutrition.
This easy-to-follow, nutritionally sound diet can help anyone shed pounds quickly-and keep them off.
Black Women ARE Losing Weight with our monthly challenges! Let’s keep the momentum going in November.

Trying something different, no candy, white four, exercising 5 days and something else:0
Jackie says
Wow, there are some wonderful options. I voted for the reading Ada’s rules it sounds like a great book. I think I will go ahead and order the book.
Famika says
Read the Ada’s Rules but really like the 5 days a week with no
Candy, soda, or white flour. The white flour would Definetly be the challenge around the holiday
Nekomise says
My book club will be reading Ada’s Rules and i will also add 5 days of excercise.
Alexis says
I think I am going to read the book as well along with the exercising and cutting out sweets and white flour. Helpful with the holidays around the corner.
Rolonda says
I am doing okay with the exercising and I’m not a huge fan of soda. But no candy and white flour? This will be the hardest test of will power for me ever. I have candy everywhere, seriously, everywhere!
ajima says
Rolonda, Those two things are huge sources of empty calories in most people’s diets. Devoid of nutrients.
Rolonda says
I will have to do research to find recipes that do not have white flour but kid friendly. My family isn’t big on candy, just me and Halloween is so close. But I will sub sweet fruits to help with that craving.
Shanell says
Rolonda the white floor and sweets is going to be hard the week of thanksgiving because my mom gets down in the kitchen but one day at a time.
Carlyn says
I am at the point in my life that I really need to lose this weight.
I’m excited that I stumbled into this webite to read other sistah’s suggestions
and to know that I’m not alone. I want to do the 5
Day with no soda, sugar or white flour.
I have great will power for weight loss challenges
But always fall back to my old routines and
Gain all my weight back. At age 43, I’m at my
biggest weight I’ve been in me entire life, and
for the first time in my life, I’m scared for my life.
Gina says
Time for me to get back on track. I’ve had a very challenging year and have gained 1/2 of the weight back that took me 2 years to lose.
Gotta get back to where I was; I do not want to have to keep buying BIGGER clothes-AGAIN.
processed sugar; flour; foods are my culprits. Need to get back to simple, unprocessed REAL food and exercise.
Thank you all for your support and inspiration. Just need to get my motivation and my frame of mind back where it was. My health is on the line as well.
November 1st is my GO date and every day is going to be a challenge. I’m glad I won’t have any small children with trick or treat bags laying around torturing me!
Good luck to everyone-though I know LUCK has nothing to do with good old fashioned will power, motivation and desire.
Carmen says
I just need to be consistent with whatever I do. I do good for a few days and then fall off the wagon again.
Toni says
If the challenge is Completely Raw for 30 days, there will need to be resources such as recipes and information for those that are not familiar with the eating raw lifestyle. There are some really good ones whether it be breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, smoothies, juices, or desserts. This will not be easy especially around Thanksgiving, but with a support group and a strong will, it can be done.
Ali says
If it is the juice challenge or raw challenge, I would like to know as soon as possible so that I can buy the foods I need to buy. I already have a juicer and vita-mixer.
Tonya says
Hello All,
Well for the month of Nov. my goal is to lose 10lbs. I have already jump started my weight loss goal as of last week , with my green smoothies , lost 4 lbs. not much but encouraging for a junkaholic like me.
I wish everyone the best
Gloria Hamilton says
Those are my thoughts also Meatless, Juicing, Smoothies and Workout with no candy no soda no white flour after we complete the 3 days Cleanse.
Saundra says
My goal is to change my lifestyle for a healthier me. Learning how to detox my body through healthy eating is what I would like to see .
Cherron says
I am interested moreso in this challenge because the white stuff is the hardest to give up. I even thought that whole wheat was good and that’s a mess. I am looking for some real direction though because this weight loss journey has been a hard one but worth it. I am willing to give this challenge a try though.
