Transformation of the Day: Wenona lost over 150 pounds. After a number serious health issues, including stroke and gall bladder disease, she connected with the right people who helped her to get on the path to greater wellness. Check out how she took action to transform her life.
Four or five years ago, I weighed over 300 pounds. I had a few surgeries to improve my health. I had gall bladder disease and diabetes. I also had a stroke and a skin condition called hidradenitis suppurative (HS). I was miserable, morbidly obese and felt like I was DYING!
Then, God sent a doctor that looked just like my late cousin Courtney to tell me to LIVE! She then started me on a life-saving regimen and referred me to a nutritionist. I stopped eating carbs (per my nutritionist). She also advised me to stopped eating fried foods and foods high in cholesterol. I seriously upped my protein intake (almost 100 grams per day). I stopped sodas, canned goods, foods containing MSG, cut out sweets, and I limited my sodium intake.
I walked for 1-2 hours 6 times per week. That’s how I started out. I couldn’t do high impact exercise per my doctor, so I was pretty limited. As I’ve lost more and more weight, I have been able to gradually do some intense workouts. I have been participating in boot camp this summer. The last time I did that, I was like 19 years old.
My height is 5’6″. My starting weight was 310 pounds. I got down to 144 pounds, but decided that was too much and I was too skinny. Now, I am hovering around 160-175 pounds. I try not to weigh myself often because the scale is tricky.
My journey began over 5 years ago! Since beginning this journey, I have lost over 150 lbs. I watched what I ate, starting with walking, restricted my portions, and used Thrive nutritional supplements that feed my body much-needed nutrients. This is what is working for me.
NO ONE can understand you journey like YOU. Folks look at me now and think I’m a bit arrogant or conceited, but they don’t know half of what I had to go through to get where I am today! I am THANKFUL for what God has done and is doing in my life!
My only “agenda” is to help you live. Losing weight is just the first part of it. After losing the weight, you’ve got to get fit! That is the phase I’m in right now in my weight loss journey. I will never “arrive,” per se. But, I won’t STOP either!
My advice: Start out where you are doing what YOU can do! Don’t get intimidated by what others can do. Some folks come out swinging and do Zumba and the whole nine. You may only be able to start out with a 15-20 minute walk per day. Then gradually build your way up. Just GET IT IN! Just watching what you eat and MOVING every day will do wonders. I’ve found WALKING to be the MIRACLE exercise!
Get plenty of lean protein in too. No fried foods. Eat fruits and veggies. Watch your portion sizes. We don’t need half the food we eat! Drink more water. I’m also into taking supplements to enhance my life. Rhodiola Rosea helps with aches and pain in the joint, helps with endurance. 5HTP helps curb my appetite and helps with mood swings and cravings. Vitamin C, Biotin, Vitamin D…even though I get that from the sun. I LOVE the outdoors!

Your story is very inspirational, I have a lot of weight to lose about 200 lb. and I also have the auto-immune disease hidradenitis suppurative. With your weight loss and dietary changes have they helped your condition much? I have flare ups and they get very swollen, has it gotten better since losing your weight? You look great and I know you have to feel great!
