Update April 2018: Wendy lost 131 pounds. She’s gone from having two organ failures during her first two years of undergrad and facing depression to being happy, healthy, and strong. Counting macros helps her lose belly fat and fuel her workouts. Check out her journey.
I started my journey about 4 years ago with a starting weight of 301 pounds! I hit a plateau with my body last year and just couldn’t shake off any more weight. I found myself fluctuating between 195 and 200 pounds, no matter how much I worked out and ‘thought’ I was eating right.
In November 2018, right before Thanksgiving, I started counting my macros. Call me crazy to do such a thing RIGHT before the holidays, but I saw it as a challenge. I wanted it so bad that I just couldn’t wait anymore!
I want to note that everyone carries weight differently! I still fluctuate between 170 and 175 pounds, but my body has adjusted to the low 170’s range. I’ve gone from pre-diabetic, two organs failures and depressed to happy, healthy, and strong.
My macro count is a very simple split that targets muscle growth and fat loss:
Daily Calorie intake: 1400 (5 small meals a day)
Protein: 45% of daily intake
Carbs: 35% of daily intake
Fats: 20% of daily intake
I chose this split because although I’ve lost a lot of weight, I still have stubborn areas such as my lower belly! However, I did not want to compensate for muscle mass (hence why protein is the highest %). To avoid loose skin, it’s essential that I lift and have the necessary fuel to stay energized throughout my workout. For carbs, I chose a nice in-between number because this comes in handy for energy when I lift as well. I just prefer to eat the majority of my carbs in the morning, so it’s being burned throughout the day.
If anyone, including YOU, said you couldn’t do it for whatever reason ITS👏🏽A👏🏽LIE! You can! You will! I believe in you.
