Transformation of the Day: Wanda lost 69 pounds. After years of yo-yo dieting, she forty plus, fabulous and free from taking water pills for blood pressure. Not only that, but this awesome mom also helped her son to lose 30 pounds. Check out her story.
My name is Wanda A. I’m 43 years blessed. My weight loss journey started many years ago. As long as I can remember, I have been on a diet. Weight watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins, diet pills… You name it, I was on it. I would drop 20 pounds here and 30 there, but never stayed consistent. Without that consistency the weight would always come back double or even triple at times.
In January of 2015 I went to the doctor because I noticing swelling in my feet and ankles. I was told that my blood pressure was a bit high (142/90), and that it needed to be 120/80. I was prescribed water pills at the time. I took the waters pills daily but with very little lifestyle change, because of course to me it was a quick fix for dropping some weight.
My son, my only child, was starting to play football and he needed to drop a few pounds as well. He asked me for help. Knowing how horrible I’d been at weight loss in the past, I was scared to help him. However, I did not want to look like a failure to my baby who always saw me as his hero, so I had to do it!
Of course I turned to social media! Namely, Instagram!! I followed every weight loss and healthy eating page there was. We started subtracting all white foods from our grocery list. I would cook every kind of protein there was; fish, chicken, turkey, duck, beef, etc. We would eat nuts, seeds and dark chocolates. We also ate fresh fruit and vegetables, cutting all canned foods completely out of our lives. We drink lots of water! We also prayed about it asked God for help with being consistent.
I started at 319 pounds and I now weigh 250 pounds. 69 pounds gone and counting. I still have 50 more lbs to go. However, it’s my son and the consistency I’m most proud of! We are staying the course and taking it day by day. My son has lost 30 pounds and feels great. He is so proud of me and tells everyone that I helped him lose weight, but he really helped me! Oh and I’m no longer on water pills. My blood pressure stays around 118/80 to 120/80.
Today, we work out 5 times a week for 1 hour a day. We walk on the weekends, go to the mountains for hikes, dance and move around a lot. I’ve joined My Fitness Pal and purchased a Fitbit, which I love! Thank you Black Woman Losing Weight for your Instagram account.
