Vanessa lost 56 pounds. She didn’t want to go into retirement overweight or add to medications she was already taking. By working with a health coach, she learned the value of having a schedule and a detailed plan to guide her on this journey. Check out her story.
Vanessa is 62 years old. She is 5’1” tall, and weighs 124 pounds, down from 176 pounds. She has also reduced her body fat by 19.2%.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
I didn’t want to go into retirement overweight. I also didn’t want to keep adding medicines to what I am already taking. I wanted to get my blood pressure and cholesterol numbers low enough that I don’t need medicine.
How did you change your eating habits?
While working with Body Refined, I learned that I don’t have to eat bland foods. Kurt taught me how to put together meals that met my basic protein, carbohydrate and fat requirements. It wasn’t some standard nutrition plan of just chicken, sweet potatoes and vegetables. I learned how to fuel my body properly.
I struggled in the beginning because scheduling everything was a big change. Trying to get my meals prepared and getting to bed earlier than I am used to was the biggest adjustment. I became used to the preparation of food, sleep change, and having all my food prepared to where I could just reach in, grab it and warm it up. I enjoy most of the foods on my plan, and I especially like a lot of the new foods I have been introduced to.
What did your workout routines look like?
I wasn’t even doing a specific exercise routine, I was just walking every day. In fact, Kurt told me to stop walking so much because I was doing too much work for the amount of food I was eating. I worked out 2 days a week, doing muscle toning and aerobics as well.
When did you start your journey?
June 2016. My journey took about 5 months
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
Exercise and diet is not all you need to lose weight. Our bodies need a structured routine. On the program I followed a schedule that encompassed my entire life, everyday of the week. I didn’t realize how important it was to have a regimen of “life” until I started to lose the weight
You have to be ready to give up some of your bad habits and start new ones. The Body Refined program was a life change for me. If you are not ready to make a change in your life, to better your life, then this plan is not for you.
I suggest eating smaller serving sizes. Also, you need to prepare your own food. That way you will know what is going into your body.
Now, I feel great, I have more confidence. I feel that I have finally accomplished a real goal with my weight. Mentally, I am less stressed about weight. Physically, my knees and back don’t bother me as much. Emotionally, I feel that I am in control of my body. I can happily look at myself in the mirror now, where as before I didn’t like what I saw when I looked in the mirror.
