Transformation of the Day: Tyler lost 104 pounds by figuring out what works for her and focusing on her health. She decided to change her life after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes because her grandmother died due to the disease.
I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a teenager. I did sports during the majority of my younger years. Once that stopped, my weight has never been under control. Now that I’m older and know what is right for my body. I’ve succeeded in losing 100+ pounds. My heaviest weight was 263 pounds. My current weight is 159 pounds.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my weight loss journey in 2019. It took two years to get to where I am now.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Yes. I lost 30 pounds on my own in 2019. Then, the program approved me for vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG/Sleeve) surgery in May 2020.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I found the motivation to start my journey when I was told I was pre-diabetic and diabetes is what killed my grandmother. Unhealthy eating habits run in my Black-Latino family.
The inspiration that kept me going was getting healthy for my daughter, my fiancé, and my future family. I had SO many complications with my first daughter because of my weight. I didn’t want to put myself nor my future husband in a constant state of worry during pregnancy. It’s a lot to carry mentally as well. I refuse to go through it again, so I just kept telling myself the weight has to come off.
How did you change your eating habits?
I joined a weight loss program that focused on a low-carb lifestyle. So I cut out most “starchy” white foods and ate more protein and vegetables. By doing this, I lost 30 pounds in 1 year on my own.
What did your workout routine consist of?
Mostly weight training.
How often did you work out?
I work out 3-4 times a week.
What is your height?
I’m 5’3″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that weight loss is more of a mental battle with food addiction than a physical battle. Once your mind is in the right place, the right habits form, and the weight starts to come off easier.
