Transformation of the Day: Trina lost 31 pounds and lots of inches. Having been a nurse for 26 years, she had knee and back issues. This Zeta Phi Beta soror’s turning point came when her doctor said that she would need knee replacement surgery. She took action by changing her diet and exercising.
I initially lost 67 pounds on Weight Watchers in 2006. I was able to keep it off for eight years! However, I started to gain weight after I started grad school in 2014. I stopped exercising, and my eating habits became poor due to the stress of going to school, working, and life in general.
Being a nurse for 26 years, I had issues with my back, and especially my knees. My turning point came in March of this year when the doctor told me I would need a knee replacement. At my age (48) if I got one done now, I would need one again in 20 years. I decided I had to get in shape and get healthy.
I started slowly by cutting out sugar altogether. Then, I went on a low carb diet (about 50 grams of carbs per day), practiced intermittent fasting (16 hours fasting, eating within 8 hours), and started exercising 3 to 4 times a week. I did 30 minutes of cardio, followed by a weight circuit training.
The picture in the flower dress was taken on March 30, 2019. The photo with the black jumpsuit was taken on November 29, 2019.
My starting weight was 210 pounds. I am now down to 179 pounds at 5’5”. I have 15 more pounds to go to get to my goal weight.
My knees no longer hurt, my asthma is under control, and I feel great. My only regret is not tracking those inches, LOL!
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be easy on myself. If I have a slip-up, it’s ok. I start again at the next meal.
You can do it! Measure yourself, take before and after pics, and don’t give up. Slow and steady wins the race!
