Transformation of the Day: Coach Trina lost 220 pounds with healthy food, determination and exercise. We have followed her story since 2012, and she is a true inspiration for anyone seeking long-term weight loss. She celebrated the 10-year fitversary in January and wrote-in to update us on her incredible journey.
What was your motivation?
My initial motivation stemmed from reconnecting with my fit friends from High School. Today, my motivation comes from the fact that I’m not willing to return to an unhealthy lifestyle that included high blood pressure and other ailments.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I was overweight most of my life, and many of my family members and friends doubted that I would be successful on my weight loss journey. That doubt and lack of support that I received inspired and propelled me to keep going.
Being able to get on the plane and not use a seatbelt extender and being able to ride on the rides at amusement parks is also motivating.
When did you start your journey, and how long did your transformation take?
I began my journey on January 20, 2011. My initial transformation process took 18 months. I recently celebrated my 10-Year anniversary on January 20, 2021. I had my Tummy Tuck on 11/18/20, and I’ve documented my post-op journey online. The journey continues.
Why did you decide to have skin removal surgery?
After losing the weight, I still felt slight insecurity about my FUPA. I made the decision due to my personal feelings about what my body looked like and where I wanted to take it. All I saw was a booty in the front and a booty in the back. After all of that hard work, it was disheartening to see.
How did you change your eating habits?
I began by meal prepping and removed processed and fast foods from my diet.
Fast forward to today: I incorporate ALL food groups into my balanced meals.
Did you use a specific plan or weight loss program?
Yes, I used the program I created, I Use To Be U.
What did your workout routine consist of?
Early on in my journey, I exercised six days a week, doing a combination of cardio, HIIT, and strength training.
Fast forward to today: My exercise routines still consist of a balance of cardio, HIIT, and strength training about 5 to 6 days a week.
What was your starting weight?
400 pounds, easy.
What is your current weight?
180 pounds.
What is your height?
5’7″
What is the biggest lesson you learned so far?
Ten years in…I’ll never truly be ready to lose weight.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Just Do It, but don’t try to go at it alone. Accountability is key. If it were easy, everyone would do it.
Why have you worked so hard to help other people transform their lives?
I have been where they are, and it’s hard. It hurts, and it’s a struggle. I wanted to be the light in a dark place for those who could not see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Last but not least, I want to help people save their lives. I realized this whole journey and experience is bigger than me.
