Transformation of the Day: Traci lost 88 pounds. This mom of 2 experienced significant weight gain with both pregnancies and no longer liked what she saw in the mirror. She embraced a Keto diet, worked out 6 days a week and posted her workouts online for accountablity. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation?
My motivation came after I had my two boys back-to-back. I have a 3 year old and a one-and-a-half-year-old. I gained over 70 pounds after both of them had been born. I ate whatever I wanted because I really believed in the motto that I was eating for two.
My husband did not care about my weight gain and was always very supportive. He told me I was beautiful, but I knew that I deserved better for myself. I also did not like what I saw when I looked in the mirror. I knew I had to make a change for my family and for my health.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started off with shakes and green juices, but that did not work for me. I needed something that I knew I could do long term and that’s when I discovered Keto. Keto is a low carb/high fat diet and I love it! I eat under 20 grams of carbs a day and track my macros with MyFitnessPal. Going Keto has literally changed my life. I mean, who doesn’t love eating bacon and cheese, LOL! The only thing I stopped eating was carbs that knock me out of ketosis. I do not eat rice, pasta, sugars, or fruit.
What does your workout routine look like?
I workout Monday through Saturday, 6 days a week. I hashtag it on my Instagram to keep me accountable. I always do cardio at least 30 minutes daily. Then, I may do bodyweight training or strength training for another 30 minutes. Some days I do two-a-days. [two workouts in one day] I post all my workouts on my Instagram. It helps keep me accountable.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 267 pounds and I now weigh 179 pounds. I am 5 foot 6 inches tall
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey January of last year. It has been a journey ever since. I got serious again after taking a break during the holidays of 2017. I was back at it after New Year’s and my transformation has been awesome!
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I have learned that food does not control me. I finally have the body that I’ve wanted for the past couple of years due to discipline and commitment.
What advice would you share with other people who want to lose weight?
The advice that I have for others is to keep going! You can do it! Don’t think about how long of a journey you have ahead. Just take it one day at a time. Enjoy the process. It is not supposed to feel like a chore. You are actually, in my opinion, supposed to enjoy your workout. You are supposed to look forward to it. Not every day, but most days. If you are bored with your work out and not motivated, you need to find something that you will enjoy.
YouTube has tons of workouts you can try, or just go out and enjoy a nice walk! You will be surprised that in 30 to 40 minutes of walking, you can burn 300 to 400 calories! Heck, dont want to go outside? There are three and five mile walk/jog videos on YouTube. You can just do it from the comfort of your own home. Just put on your headphones and your music and go. There are literally no excuses. Some progress is better than no progress. We all have it in us. We just have to dig deep.
I am always striving to help people who think they can’t do it when they ask me for tips and advice, because I was once that person. On a daily basis, I am proving that assumption wrong, and I am making it happen!
