Transformation of the Day: Toni lost 78 pounds. Wanting to avoid a family history of high blood pressure and diabetes was a major motivation. This petite dynamo recently won first place in her class in her second bodybuilding competition. Check out her journey.
My name is Toni and I am 28 years old. For the majority of my life, I battled with obesity. I dealt with it for so long that I began to accept the fact that I was just going to be a “big girl” for the rest of my life. Finally, I hit a point in my life where I was at my highest weight of 208 pounds (height: 5’1″). I knew that I had to make a change. My family has a history of high blood pressure and diabetes. If I continued living the way that I was living, I would be be dealing with those problems sooner than later.
I started my search for a personal trainer. I knew I needed someone to be accountable to. I needed someone to keep me focused and motivated on this new journey. I searched Instagram and came across Bobby of @beastfactoryfitness. In September 2014, he introduced me to crossfit training. Along with the training, I had to change my diet. By cutting out things like bread, sugar, flour, white rice and pasta, I was able to lose over 50 pounds in about 5 months. I enhanced my diet with lots of green veggies and baked/grilled meats. I was also aware of my fruit intake because of the amount of natural sugar it contains.
Crossfit made me fall in love with the world of fitness. I felt like I was a part of something! I was excited about my changes, both physically and mentally! I trained hard, 5 times a week. Crossfit consists of both weight training and cardio. It became an addiction and I learned that anything I set my mind to could be achieved! I have since moved on to the world of bodybuilding. I just competed in my second bodybuilding competition, weighing in at 130 pounds. I was able to take home first place in my figure A class. That was a very proud moment for me!
My ultimate goal is to inspire those out there struggling with obesity. Diet and exercise is the best way to go. Commit to a lifestyle change! It’s not easy at all, but anything worth having doesn’t come easy. If I can do it, anybody can! There’s not one taste of food out there that makes me feel better than knowing I’m living a healthy life… And I LOVE FOOD!
Don’t be afraid to seek help. Set goals and knock them down one step at a time. Small improvements turn into major progress before you know it. Join me in living a healthy lifestyle and let’s be great together! Instagram: @toni2fit
