Success Stories of the Day: Power Couple Toni Gordon and Devin Kellybrew lost the weight and got fit together. She lost 104 pounds and he lost 118 pounds. You’ve got to read their amazing stories and check out their before and after photos…
Toni’s Story: In my professional life, I would consider myself being at a great place. I was working in my first full-time position in Higher Education after achieving my master’s degree. However, in a highly stressful and sensitive work environment, I focused to balance my professional life and less my personal life and well-being. This led to a significant moment in my health where, at the age of 24 and 230 pounds, I was told I had high blood pressure. It certainly didn’t help that in working in a stressful environment I did not focus on my eating, especially with a lot of places that offered good fried food. Living on a campus did not offer a lot of healthy options. It was at that moment in finding out that I had high blood pressure that I would make a change in my eating and take working out serious.
In terms of food I stopped eating fried and processed foods. I also stopped eating pork and beef. I started the Insanity program mid-February of 2012 and I never looked back! I lost 40 pounds in my 1st round in two months and it felt good. Numerous rounds of Insanity and Insanity Asylum conditioned me but Body Beast motivated me to lift weights. In addition to doing Body Beast I used the Focus T-25 program to keep cardio in my workouts and help keep me conditioned. This left me at 154 pounds in November of 2013.
It was around this time where my handsome love, Devin Kellybrew, entered my life. This amazing man who is a breath of fresh air with an incredible story. He has motivated me further in proper nutrition, understanding lifting weights even further, and the importance of truly RESTING. He introduced P90X to me and has helped me get to my lowest weight at 126 pounds by also including 21 Day Fix to help in my nutrition. It took nearly two years to break through and lose that weight, but it truly started to form my body into what I wanted. The best part is that my blood pressure has been lowered and in great condition! Life is incredible sharing it with Devin. I have always strived to be focused, but he brings out a different side to my focus and challenges me daily. He has been a wonderful coach in my health journey, and a greater partner in life’s journey. Though we live at a distance, Devin makes many trips (which is ALWAYS exciting and beautiful). Yet, even in the distance we continue to be shaped and motivated by each other more. This in turn also helps me motivate others and I love that. I only want to be a tool in helping someone else reach their goals with positivity and perseverance. One piece of advice I can share is surely to find something in your fitness journey that will continue to drive you, keep the faith in yourself and in God, and make no excuses. Just do the work!
Devin’s Story: At the age of 27, I was a father of two sons while in a relationship that was coming to a end after 9 years for reasons of being cheated on. With me weighing at 302 pounds, I watched my mom suffer a massive heart attack one morning due to 80% of her major arteries being clogged because of poor food choices. Watching her live through it was great, but it was life changing for me. I couldn’t be a victim to food because my kids were all I had. After three years of P90X sitting on the shelf still in the box, I pressed play in 2011. In 10 months with just eating healthy foods, a at home dvd program, dumbbells, a pull up bar, and body weight I was down 118 lbs and weighing a ripped 184lbs. The gym is cool, but my results were made at home. I have maintained my weight at 203 pounds for three years now.
Time had past and I’ve met the person you see now: my Beautiful Queen, Toni Gordon. She was a Beachbody success like me, but wanted to reach greater results. I focused solely on God, my kids, and her. Now with her beside me life has been AMAZING! Toni is my support system physically and spiritually. She lives in Michigan and I stay in Arkansas, but I fly to her throughout the year continuously. While focusing on nutrition to help others, constantly tweaking me and Toni’s workouts, I stay busy being a father. I count macros not calories and I never weigh myself for results. I watch the mirror daily.
My advice to others is learn to eat for results not the numbers on the scale. Judge your progress by the mirror and how your clothes fit. Stay disciplined toward your goals as you pray for strength. In ending, I want to give all honor to God. My transformation is a true blessing from God in many ways. Also, big thanks to Beachbody for the P90X program I followed as my workout routine. To my kids, mom, and Toni, I love you all. Thank you for the feature BWLW!
