Transformation of the Day: Tojo lost 85 pounds. Cutting out most meat and lots of unhealthy, processed foods was key to her journey. A little less than a year ago, she started this journey with the support of her father and friends. Check out her story.
What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My inspiration came from my dad who was always in my corner cheering me on, as well as a couple of friends who were already on their healthy lifestyle journey. Their support kept me focused.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed them drastically! I’ve cut out all red meat, pork, chicken and turkey for almost a year now. I also gave up on soda/pops and unnecessary, fattening snacks. I educated myself on the harmful chemicals that most meats and “foods” had to offer. Also, I definitely incorporated more fruits and vegetables into my daily meals and substituted most meat with things like mushrooms, broccoli and eggs.
What did your workout routine look like?
Honestly, the bulk of my weight loss was due to changes in my diet, because I hate working out! However, as the pounds dropped I was a lot more mobile and could get around faster, so in a way I’m constantly moving now, where as before I was too tired. I definitely have room for improvement in that area.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 240 pounds and I weigh 155 pounds. That’s a total loss of 85 lbs! I am 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches tall and I started this process last year in July (2015).
What advice would you give to our readers?
My advice to my fellow black sisters is this: Meditation brings you closer to God. Envision yourself a healthier you and meditate daily with that vision. The day I incorporated Crystal Gemstones into my meditations and envisions was the day my life changed. Also, Cut the T.V. Off! It’s a brainwashing mechanism. All it does is show you commercials of food you didn’t even know you craved.
Find happiness in your life or else a diet can’t do anything for you. You need a lifestyle change. Get comfortable with the person in the mirror and really love and appreciate your body. Once you do this, you will be on your way to a healthier lifestyle.
