Update: Shout out to Tina. She has brought her weight loss total to 50 pounds.
Transformation of the Day: Tina lost 30 pounds. She just wanted to be happy with what she saw in the mirror. Online exercise videos, portion control and sharing her story on social media for accountablity worked for her. Check out her journey.
Hi, my name is Tina and I’m 30 years old. I’m 5 feet, 2 inches tall and my highest weight was 202 pounds. I currently weigh 172 pounds and my goal weight is 135 pounds. I weigh myself once a week.
What was your motivation?
My motivation to lose weight just came from not being happy with what I saw in the mirror. It got so bad that I hated buying new clothes because that was just another thing showing me how much weigh I’d gained over the years.
On Aug 24, 2017, I was looking for a white dress for a family Labor Day cookout. I’d tried on a dress from the previous year and it no longer fit. I was so upset and tired. Then, I got on the scale and saw the screen read out 202lbs. I couldn’t believe it. At that point, I asked God to give me the strength and motivation to lose weight and not give up this time. I had tried to lose weight over the years, but I always gave up. This time, I knew things had to be different.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started eating smaller portions and more lean meats and veggies. I cut out juice, soda and all of the sweets I loved. I also started drinking more water (1 gallon a day). What I was doing didn’t feel like a diet because I was still making delicious meals. The difference was that they were healthy for me.
What did your work out routine look like?
I was hesitant to work out at first, because I hated it. However, after about a week I started adding 30 minutes of exercise to my day. A friend told me about Fitness Blender on YouTube and I started doing their routines. I remember when I saw the first 5 pounds drop. I was so happy. It made me want to keep going. Now, I workout 6 days a week straight, doing a mix between HIIT, cardio and weight training.
I started a Instagram page to document my journey and to hold myself accountable: @browngirlweightloss. I want to motivate others while motivating myself at the same time. I post my workouts and meals, along with inspirational qoutes.
