What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going if you felt like giving up?
I was motivated to lose weight because I was tired of carrying around extra weight from Covid and bad eating habits. I also didn’t feel like myself. I knew if I lost weight, I would have more energy to do things I enjoy.
A couple of things inspired me to keep going even when I wanted to give up. First, it was the daily emails that Terry Starks sent to me. They were super empowering and encouraging. My mom also did the program with me, so I didn’t want to leave my accountability partner hanging.
My boyfriend always meal-prepped with me, made sure I followed the program, and did the workouts with me. We were both so invested that I just kept pushing myself.
Finally, I was inspired by my Delta Sigma Theta line sister, who did Terry’s program before me, and my other Sorors, who kept hyping me up to keep going. Without those key people, I’m not sure if I would have lost as much as I have.
How did you change your eating habits?
On Terry Starks meal plan, I ate chicken, green vegetables, and salads. I gave up junk foods like chips, candy, and desserts. I also drink a lot of water throughout the day.
Tell us about your workout routine.
Terry encouraged me to work out every morning. Most days, I did High-Intensity Interval Training. I would walk with my dog if I couldn’t get a class in. I work out seven days a week.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 184 lbs and my current weight is 159lbs.
What is your height?
I’m 5’5″.
When did you start your journey?
I started on August 8, 2022, and did the program for 35 days.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I’ve not had any weight loss surgeries.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I learned from Terry Starks was the importance of meal prepping. It takes the guesswork out of what to eat. I’m less likely to choose an unhealthy snack if my meals are ready to go.
What advice would you like to share with people who want to lose weight?
My advice for someone who wants to lose weight is that the work starts in the kitchen. Get rid of all the tempting snacks and stay focused on your goal.
