Update Feb 2016 – Tiara lost 8 more pounds for a total of 56 pounds gone. She has decided to go forward focusing on not just the number on the scale, but on being happy and healthy.
“I’m not losing pounds, but I am losing a lot of inches. This weight loss journey has not been easy an easy one. There have been times the I wanted to give up. I hit a plateau and I became frustrated. I realized that hopping on the scale is not good to do all the time. I feel better, my clothing size is getting smaller and I’m satisfied with my progress! To help me get out of the plateau, I have eliminated meat for a while. I’m still sticking with exercising. Also, I gave my body a detox cleanse and ate only fruits and veggies with eggs and peanuts for protein. I was stuck at 224 pounds and now I weigh 219 pounds. I’m still pleased with how far I have come from my starting weight of 275 pounds. For the future, I don’t want to focus on the number of pounds shed, but I want to start focusing on remaining healthy and happy!”
Sept 2015 – Weight Loss Story of the Day: Tiara lost 48 pounds. When her doctor told her that she was obese, it was a turning point that led her to start her weight release journey. Wanting real lifestyle change, she committed to the process and took action. Here is what she shared with us about how she did it…
Hi my name is Tiara! I started my journey weighing 275 pounds. I knew I was big, but it never hit me until the doctor said “you are morbidly obese”. To hear that broke my heart!! So, on April 1, 2015 I decided to fight the fat!! I started off by walking 2 or 3 miles everyday. I never walked more than five minutes before! I hated being out doors. Then, I challenged myself to drink only water and no other beverages. A gallon day was tough, but I did it! I lost 17 lbs for the month of April and I was in awe. That’s when I knew that I could do this!! Yes, its hard, but you have to fight to get to where you want to be. I lost a total of 48 lbs and currently weigh 227 pounds (height: 5’7″). My goal weight is 199 pounds! I love the feedback I get and seeing other people transformation. BWLW is an awesome page!
How did you change your eating habits?
Honestly, I had to do things little by little. I had to be realistic with myself. It takes 21 days to break a habit and 21 to develop one. I kept that in mind. For the first month, I stopped drinking juice, sodas and tea. It was tough, but I started to enjoy it and it got easier. My Fitness Pal is a great app to follow, because it helps you with portion control and overeating. I learned to choose low calorie food, rather than high calorie food. I reaped better benefits from doing that.
What did your workout routines look like?
People do not believe it, but from April to July, I worked out at home! Taebo and Walk Away the Pounds are great workout videos. At the time, I couldn’t afford a gym, so I walked everyday. I use to hate being outdoors, but now, I love it. I zoom out and enjoy the atmosphere. Now that I’ve just joined the gym, I see that the perks they offer are great. I go to Spin classes twice a week and weight training classes twice a week. On the days I can’t go, I work out right at home.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
First thing, you have to become fed up! I have tried dieting so many times and I failed because I wasn’t serious. The other thing is, this can’t be a diet, because you are say that this journey is just temporary. You want this to be a lifestyle. You want to feel better and look better for life. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it and succeeding! You have to fight and say “Enough is enough.” I got tired of not wearing what I wanted and getting headaches. When the doctor said I was morbidly obese, that sounded so horrible.
It is a mindset thing that you have to overcome and know that you can do all things through Christ, who gives you strength! Surround yourself with people who want the same goals and can give positive feedback. Consistency is the key. You will have days that you mess up, but don’t stay down. Admit your faults and improve! Don’t make room for excuses. Be creative. I work out with my kids sometimes. Lastly, take it day by day. You didn’t gain weight overnight, so don’t expect to lose it overnight either. You can do this!
