Transformation of the Day: Tiara lost 35 pounds+ with healthy eating habits, cardio, weight training, and determination. Since 2014, she’s transformed her lifestyle in a sustainable, practical way so that she can maintain the results she’s worked hard to achieve.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation has changed many times over the years and what I’ve learned is motivation is not what keeps me going. Sure, motivation feels great, but when something becomes a long-term routine, it’s not always going to feel good. What inspires me to keep going is simple. RESULTS! Results fuel my motivation. Not the other way around.
How did you change your eating habits?
I did not use a specific plan or program. I changed my eating habits by learning what I was consuming and how it affects my body at a cellular level. 800 calorie frappuccinos, high-carb and sodium pasta, and processed snacks (even those marketed as “healthy”) aren’t always as healthy as you think. There are so many free resources online to educate yourself.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
Currently, I work out seven days a week, some days twice a day. I typically do a combination of cardio and strength training.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My heaviest weight was 210 pounds, and my current weight is 175 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’3″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
That is a tough question because I am constantly restarting and changing my goals. I guess the best way to answer this question is by noting when I was my heaviest. I weighed 210 pounds in 2014 and initially lost 50 pounds in 5 months. Since then, I have gained and lost muscle and fat, so my weight has fluctuated between 160 -185 pounds over the years.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Have a cheat meal. It’s not going to kill you. No, but seriously, I know most people feel like they have to completely give up all the tasty, unhealthy foods we all crave from time to time when entering a weight loss journey. That’s not realistic! As long as you commit to eating clean, whole, nutrient-dense foods 80% of the time, you’ll be fine.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Get started with small habit changes that you can easily incorporate into your everyday life. i.e., park farther away to get more steps in, take the stairs instead of the elevator, switch out white rice/sugar/bread for brown rice/sugar/bread, etc. It should feel like a part of your everyday life, NOT like a chore.
