Transformation of the Day: Theresa lost 36 pounds. The prospect of having to take high blood pressure medication motivated her to make some significant lifestyle changes. With the help of her coach, worked out every day and changed the way she thought about food. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My motivation; High blood pressure, the support of my husband, my 16-year-old daughter and Terry Starks.
During my annual physical, my blood pressure was high at the start of the doctor’s visit. Halfway through the visit and at the end of the appointment, it was still high, so my doctor said she wanted me to come back in two months to have my numbers rechecked. In the meantime, she said that if I visited places like Walmart, Walgreens or CVS, I should use the free machines to check my blood pressure.
High blood pressure and the thought of being put on medication(s) to regulate it was enough to motivate me to make some significant changes. I did research on my BMI (Body Mass Index) and discovered that for my age, height and weight, I was considered obese. I also had knee pain and foot pain (plantar fasciitis), which are both now gone.
I would always read the Black Women Losing Weight weight loss success stories, but never put any action behind my own lifestyle change until I contacted Terry Starks on June 11, 2018. My transformation began on June 18, 2018! I reached out to this great and mighty man of God whom is a certified weight loss nutritionist (aka. “The Diet Doctor“) on Instagram. When I wanted to give up, I did like David and encouraged myself to keep going. (1 Samuel 30)
How did you change your eating habits?
I started changing my eating habits the day I received my first meal plan/meal prep instructions from Terry. With this change in eating habits, I eliminated sweets, caffeine, unhealthy carbs, fried food, and fast food. I also stopped late night snacking. For me, it’s all about meal prep, portion control, and healthy choices.
What did your workout routine look like?
My workouts consisted of 30 minutes of cardio once a day. Then, I switched to 35 minutes of cardio twice a day, 7 days a week. Now, I’ve started lifting weights.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 196 pounds. After 35 days my weight was 166 pounds. I currently weigh 160 pounds. My height is 5’7”. No surgery, no diet pills, and no magic potion.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that the race is not given to the swift nor to the strong, but to the one that endures until the end! (Ecclesiastes 9:11) It’s all about changing your mindset and the way you think about food. Eat to live and be in good health. It’s about a lifestyle change.
What advice do you have for other women who want to lose weight?
Put yourself first and take time out for self. Take care of you. Turn off the negative thoughts and chatter from yourself and others. Stop saying, “I can’t.” and know that you can! Be your own cheerleader.
God’s got you! There will be haters during and after the transformation process, but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26) Stay focused, diligent and determined.
