Tassia lost 40 pounds. She faced some serious trials and tribulations during her pregnancy, including a break up, chest pains and anxiety. She turned her life around with healthy food choices and regular exercises. Check out her story.
At the age of 26, I was overweight and facing health issues. After having my son Kaelem, I was always sick. Up until today, I still think that I was the one who made me sick. You see, Kaelem’s dad and I broke up during my pregnancy and having to deal with raising my child alone was very stressful. My thoughts were negative every single day. I couldn’t sleep at nights because that’s when my little guy was most active.
I was at my lowest after giving birth. I had a baby who cried non-stop and a man who abandoned his child. Kaelem used to cry all day and be awake all night. Talk about sleep deprivation. I was frustrated, stressed and felt very much alone. I began to get sick; chest pains, ear infections, bladder infections, heart palpitation and migraines. I went to the doctor on numerous occasions, did tons of blood tests. Everything returned normal. The doctor then told me that I had anxiety problems, and prescribed pills for me to take. I think then was when reality hit me. I walked out of the doctor’s office and told myself “I refuse to consume these pills.”
Instead, I started eating healthy, purchasing fruit and vegetables and tons of whole grain food. I also removed all junk food from the house. For exercise, I started working out 30 minutes per day. It was pretty tough at first; however, I adjusted and got into the gist of things. I started seeing small results and I knew then I had to keep going. I now had something that I liked to do.
I’m basically a house fly…Lol. I don’t go to the clubs, parties and fêtes. I’m always home with my little guy and family doing things I enjoy. I knew I changed when I would get excited when I did my grocery shopping. I live in the tropics, so there’s always new fruits and vegetables to try, which is something I loved.
As for the stress and frustration, Kaelem is now a year old and sleeps throughout the night, so I’m well rested. His dad and I are now co-parenting. Vivian, my boyfriend, introduced me to something I hated to do which was READ. I know I know… it sounds horrible right, but I always thought of reading as something boring. I hated books. However, for the past 2-3 months I started reading self-improvement books. I can say they have opened my eyes and my mind. I can definitely say that these books have helped me on my journey.
With my pregnancy, I weighed 200 pounds (height 5’5″). Since then, I’ve lost 40 pounds. I have been completely happy and healthy since I made that decision to take care of my body. I fuel my body with all these healthy delicious food and my brain with the books I read. My confidence is at an all time high and I feel like my old but improved self. This is a journey, therefore I’m still working on myself daily. I’m happier and more confident than ever.
So, my loves, just to wrap things up here: You only get one body. I plead that you take best care of it. Eat healthy, exercise and read self improvement books.
