Update May 2021: Tashia wrote in to share that she and her husband have continued to make progress since August.
I would like to submit an update on my husband and I’s weight loss journey. In my previous post, I stated that my husband lost 140 pounds. He’s now lost 25 more lbs for a total of 165 pounds lost since we started October 2019. As for myself, I lost 75 pounds when I submitted my story. Since then, I’ve lost 15 more lbs for a total of 90 pounds lost since starting in Oct 2019. We haven’t changed anything we were doing before. We just continue to be consistent and believe in ourselves. Instagram: @weightbegone_couple
Tashia lost 75 pounds. She was determined to improve her health, and her husband partnered with her on this journey. Her blood pressure was uncontrolled despite taking medication. By going Keto, practicing intermittent fasting, and working out consistently, she has achieved impressive results. Her husband lost 140 pounds as well.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was my health and my husband. I was continually going to the doctor due to high blood pressure. I went to the doctor and specifically remembered the scale saying 245 pounds, my heaviest weight. I was on blood pressure meds that were not working. My husband motivated me and stuck by my side. He joined this journey with me, losing 140 pounds in 9 months.
Remembering why I started is what inspired me to keep going. Many times, during the start of my journey, I wanted to give up. However, remembering that moment on the scale at the doctor’s office and my unstable blood pressure is what kept me going. Also, my husband and I are each other’s accountability partners, so I couldn’t give up. Now, as we near our goal weights, we have made an Instagram page: @weightbegone_couple, a Youtube channel: Weightbegone Couple, and a Facebook group: Weightbegone Couple to keep us motivated to continue to eat healthy and inspire others.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started my journey with the Keto Diet. I used the Keto Diet for the first three months of my journey to help jumpstart the weight loss. I lowered my carb intake to only 20 grams per day. I removed rice, potatoes, bread, sugar, juice, fried food, fast food, processed food from my diet.
I ate more green veggies and increased my water intake to a gallon of water a day. I also incorporated intermittent fasting into my diet. I started with a 16:8 fasting schedule. Then I switched to 18:6 and then 20:4. I even did the OMAD diet some days [one meal a day]. After three months, I increased my carb intake to 50g per day and added in fruits, but still did Keto some days.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
At the beginning of my journey, I worked out very little. Maybe 1-2 times per week for about 30 minutes. My exercise routine consisted of a lot of cardio – Walking, running, jump rope, and HIIT.
After about three months on my journey, I exercised about 3-4 times a week for about 40 minutes to an hour. At this point, I upped my exercise routine and added more movements to target specific body parts such as legs, abs, arms, back, etc. I followed the workout routines and exercises I saw on Youtube and Instagram. As I learned more about the exercises and what body parts they targeted, my workouts started to get longer and more intense.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 245 pounds in October 2019. My current weight is 170 pounds (as of July 2020).
What is your height?
5’6.5″
When did you start your journey? How long did it take you to transform?
I started my journey in October 2019. It took me nine months to lose 75 pounds.
Is weight loss surgery part of your story?
No. This transformation was done naturally with no products. Only consistency and hard work
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that we have to take care of our bodies and be healthy. Since being on my journey, my health is doing well, and my blood pressure has stabilized. I also learned to enjoy life. That means if you fall off course, get up, and get right back to where you started.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
My advice is to stay consistent and trust the process! I was one to try so many diets, lose a few pounds, then fall off. If you want a piece of cake, a doughnut or some ice cream, eat it! It’s ok to have a cheat meal, but only in moderation. If you fall off, re-start and return to where you left off.
Don’t think of the process as a “job” or “diet.” Think of it as a lifestyle because this change is now a part of your life. Also, accountability partners are very helpful. Get someone to do this journey with you. My husband and I started together, and now we enjoy the lifestyle together.
