Transformation of the Day: Tanya lost 77 pounds. While she was in high school, her adoptive mom passed away due to weight-related illnesses. As an adult, she draws strength by reflecting on her mother’s love. Becoming a pescatarian and working out 5 to 6 days a week are two ways she took action.
What was your motivation?
My biggest motivation was just wanting to live. I was adopted, so I have no idea about my family’s health history. I’m doing everything I can to make sure I’m around as long as possible.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My mother (adoptive mom) passed away when I was in high school from complications and illnesses that mostly stemmed from her being overweight. Every time I think about my mother and the way she suffered, I wipe away my tears and find strength in my love for her.
How did you change your eating habits?
When I got strict about my weight loss journey, I cut that was unhealthy everything out. No cheating and no rewarding myself with food. I didn’t follow a specific plan.
What foods did you stop/start eating?
No bread, dairy, or meat. No alcohol, no junk food, and no fast food. I’m a Pescatarian [Vegetarian who eats fish/seafood]
What did your workout routine consist of?
I worked out often, usually 5-6 times a week. I’ve always enjoyed working out, but food was my issue. Now, I still work out 5-6 times a week, but 2-3 of those are two-a-days. Currently, my routine consists of boot camp, lifting, and spin class.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 238 pounds, and my current weight is 161 pounds.
What is your height?
5’5″
When did you start your journey?
I got serious about my weight loss journey last year. I began with a 100-day fitness challenge that I did with some friends. I committed to 100 days of physical activity. Towards the end of the challenge, I switched up my diet, and my transformation really started to take place.
How long did your transformation take?
I’d say a year.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Nope, all me.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to. Thoughts become things, especially when you implement action.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
MIND YOUR BUSINESS. Focus on YOUR journey. Focus on YOUR body. Don’t compare yourself to others. You have to figure out what works for you.
Also, take tons of pictures and videos. The mirror will sometimes play tricks on you, but those comparison photos don’t lie.
