Transformation of the Day: Tanisha lost 80 pounds in eight months with Keto. After gaining 100lbs in college, she faced a lot of ups and downs trying to get rid of the pounds. When a friend mentioned the Ketogenic diet, she decided to do her research and give it a try. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My weight fluctuated throughout childhood, but it didn’t really take off until college. I gained the freshman 25lbs, sophomore 30lbs, junior 20lbs, and the senior 25lbs. In about five years, I put on 100 pounds. At my biggest, I wore a size 20 and weighed 257 pounds. I felt like a stranger in my own body. I didn’t know the woman in the mirror who I had become.
After failing at Weight Watchers twice, Medifast twice, and Yo-Yo dieting for years, I decided to look into weight loss surgery. My insurance didn’t cover it, so I even looked into traveling to Mexico for weight loss surgery. Then, a friend of mine told me that they started doing the Keto Diet. After doing research, I dove in head first with Keto. I loved the way I felt, and the pounds were melting off. I lost 80 pounds in about eight months.
How did you change your eating habits?
I totally changed my eating habits to a low carb/high fat Keto diet. I gave up sugar, bread, rice, and processed foods. I usually eat meat, veggies, fats, and fruits.
What did your workout routine consist of?
The only work out I get is chasing my kid around.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 257 pounds, and my current weight is 177 pounds.
What is your height?
5’7”
When did you start your journey?
I started low carb in May 2018 and strict Keto in July 2018.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
My body is not a garbage can. I do not have to clean my plate. It’s perfectly fine to stop when I’m full. I can save my food for later. I can also throw it away.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
You didn’t put the weight on overnight, so don’t expect it to fall off overnight. Be patient with yourself. Celebrate both scale and non-scale victories.
