Update April 2021: “Here is a update… After going through a weight loss plateau, I’m back on track and now down 82 pounds [total]. It’s still not easy but with the warm weather approaching I’ll be able to be outside more with my exercise routine.” @livelaughlove2314
Tangie lost 75 pounds. This thyroid cancer survivor was tired of being told that she was well dressed and carried herself well for a “big girl”. After being diagnosed with sleep apnea, she changed her eating habits, hit the gym, and refused to give up.
When did you start your weight loss journey? What was your motivation?
My journey started on January 26, 2020, after I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. After waking up gasping for air, I said, “I have to make a change.”
I hated the way I looked. I got tired of people saying they love the way I dress as a “BIG GIRL”… OR even though I’m a BIG GIRL, I carry myself well.
As a thyroid cancer survivor, I was told it would be hard for me to lose weight because I had no thyroid, which controls metabolism.
How did you change your eating habits?
I cut out all fast food. I don’t eat bread, rice, or pasta (if I do, it’s maybe once a month). I also don’t eat much red meat anymore. Now, I drink a lot of green smoothies and apple cider vinegar tea I make on my own
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I started working with a personal trainer on January 26. I trained three times a week and lost 20 pounds in a month. On March 1, the gym closed due to Covid. From March to now, I’ve been training on my own. I work out three times a week. I walk for 30 minutes a day, if not more.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 305 pounds, and now I weigh 230 pounds. I’m not giving up until I’m 100 pounds down. The goal is to lose 100 by December 31.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I didn’t have surgery. My medical doctor felt I could do it on my own.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that IM MUCH STRONGER THAN I EVER GAVE MYSELF CREDIT FOR, both mentally and physically.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
If you believe in God, get on your knees, pray and ask for MOTIVATION AND DETERMINATION. Before you consider weight loss surgery, try it on your own first. I’m 75 pounds down naturally. It’s been hard. After I lost 60 pounds, the scale wouldn’t move for months, but I didn’t give up. You never know your true strength until you are tested.
