Transformation of the Day: Tammie lost 163 pounds. This mom of five wanted to get fit and healthy to see her children grow up and to meet her grandchildren in the future. At the advice of her doctor, she tried the Lap-Band but lost only 12 lbs in a year. That is when she decided to regroup and change her lifestyle.
What was your motivation?
My five children were and are easily my biggest motivation, now and in the past. My desire is to one day meet my grandchildren and to see my children grow into the wonderful adults I know they will be. I want to be there to see them succeed and thrive.
When did you start your journey?
After several stints in the hospital and after a few surgeries directly related to my love of unhealthy eating, I was approached by a bariatric specialist. He wanted me to get Lap-Band surgery because I was just 32 years old and weighed 320 pounds. I said no to his request for 3 years. In 2010, after my 5th and final baby, I decided to do it. I thought it would be a quick fix, but to my surprise, a quick fix it was not. After a year, I had only lost 12 pounds. This caused me to reevaluate my life on many levels. At this point, it’s taken 3 years to see significant change.
How did you change your eating habits?
Basically, I started by using a smaller plate, putting my fork down in between bites and purposely leaving food on my plate. I dramatically cut back on sugar intake. I would use one day as a cheat day to eat junk. I drank more water, cut out carbonated beverages all together and I started tracking my food on the Loseit app.
What did your workout routine look like?
Tiffany Rothe workouts and at home dvds were a big part of my program. I worked out 4-5 days a week.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 320 pounds and my current weight is 157 pounds. My height is 5’4″.
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
Follow my 3 C’s rule… Commit to yourself to make this lifestyle change, be confident in every phase of your journey, and be consistent… Consistently improve on what you are doing. Set several small goals in order to reach your ultimate goal.
