Transformation of the Day: Tajai lost 70 pounds in 10 months with healthy eating habits and at home workout programs. With her children and her husband as her motivation, she has created a healthy lifestyle that benefits them as well. Check out her story.
3 and a half years ago I was trapped in my own body. I knew what I needed to do to get the weight off, but I was full of excuses.
- “I don’t have time to exercise.”
- “I can’t afford to eat healthy.”
- “I’m too tired.”
- “I don’t have time to meal prep.”
I didn’t realize that what I was really saying was, “I don’t have time for my health.”
Shortly after coming home from my 10th-anniversary vacation, back in 2016, I made the decision that my health had to come first, not just for me but for everyone depending on me. Here I am today, 70 pounds lighter and still working to maintain a healthy lifestyle for my family and me.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was my family and me wanting to be a healthier mom for my children. My children and my husband keep me going when things got tough.
In the beginning, I jump started my journey by becoming a health and fitness coach through Beachbody. I am no longer a coach through Beachbody. I am aspiring to be a life coach so that I can help women achieve healthier lifestyles. I feel that mental, emotional, and spiritual health are just as important as physical health so we must take care of our whole selves to achieve wellness.
How did you change your eating habits?
I cut out a lot of fried and processed foods. I started drinking Shakeology for breakfast and homemade green smoothies with spinach, kale, and frozen fruit for lunch. I ate a healthy dinner of grilled chicken or fish, steamed veggies, and a serving of rice on most days. For snacks, I eat nuts, vegetables, and fruit. I try to pick fresh foods first and avoid processed foods.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 220 pounds, and my current weight is 145 pounds. My height is 5’4″.
What did your workout routine consist of? What Beachbody programs did you use?
I followed the Core De Force and Hip Hop Abs programs from Beachbody. I also walked a lot and did sexy chair fitness. I try to be active 7 days a week. Even on my rest days, I take the stairs instead of the elevator or go for a light walk.
How long did it take for you to release the weight?
It took 10 months for me to lose 70 pounds – 220lbs to 150lbs.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Consistency is key, and we are what we eat. No matter how much you exercise, if you have unhealthy eating habits, you will not maintain weight loss.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Stay focused on your goals. Take lots of full body pictures. Celebrate every non-scale victory because the scale can deceive you. Also, commit to being a healthier you, even once the weight is gone!
