Update: Congrats to Tahira! She’s lost 100 pounds.
Weight Loss Transformation of the Day: Tahira lost 85 pounds. After achieving her short term weight loss goals for a trip to Hawaii, the light bulb came on. She knew that she could achieve her long term goals, so she took action with clean eating, HIIT workouts and consistency. Here is what she shared about her journey…
I’ve started my journey on Jan 20, 2015. I’m nine months in as of October 20th and I’m down 85 pounds! Height: 5’9″, current weight 187 pounds.
My motivation actually came from me just trying lose a couple pounds before I went to Hawaii. My best friend encouraged me and within those first 45 days I lost 15 pounds. I said to myself, “Hey I could do this!” I simply started making better food choices and realized that I wasn’t eating properly. For instance, I would have steak, rice, potatoes and Mac n cheese. First of all, that’s too many starches in one meal. So, I changed up! I’d have one starch, one protein and one veggie. Portion control is important for me as well.
For exercise, I started doing HIIT (high intensity interval training) at Charter Fitness and stuck to it. I do cardio, weight training and strength training. I worked out 6 days a week (now, I do 5) and prayed for strength to keep me going.
Advice: Will it happen overnight ? No! Will it be Worth it ? Yes! Eat clean, train dirty and remain focused, because health is the first wealth. Fit is not a destination, it’s a lifestyle change! Consistency is the key! Fall in love with the fitness journey, treat it like a job and it will reward you. It’s more than just physical, there are spiritual rewards. Eat clean for permanent lifestyle changes. I’ve tried yoyo dieting, supplements, etc. Real, lasting results come from real food. Also, you’ve got to address the real reasons why your body is gaining weight. Do that and the weight will melt off! Food matters, rest matters, stress matters and exercise matters.
