What was your motivation?
My family. I got sick one day in 10/2019. My family had had to rush me to the emergency room because I was showing signs of a stroke. My blood pressure was 210/198, and my cholesterol was 490. Watching my family in tears and worried about me dying, I knew then that I had to do something.
I was in the bariatric program and still was not making changes to get the surgery. While I sat in the emergency room, I knew I had to make changes fast or die at 49 years of age.
I had Gastric Sleeve surgery in 2020. I also had skin removal surgery in 2022 because of so much extra skin around my waist
Just recently, I had what doctors called a CVA (cerebral vascular attack – on 12/11/2023). So I have to take aspirin and a cholesterol pill daily, eat a proper diet, and exercise.
What inspired you to keep going even when you wanted to give up?
I have four grown children and two beautiful grandchildren that I want to see grow up. I also have a wonderful significant other that I plan on growing old with. My family is very encouraging, and they push me every day.
How did you change your eating habits?
I stopped eating a lot of foods that contain sugar. I use substitutes for sugar in my coffee. I also stopped drinking soda and juices that are high in sugar. I still enjoy ice cream, but in moderation.
What is your workout routine?
When I started working out, I would just walk six days a week for 2.25 miles. I also do some light weights at home. Since October 1, 2023, I joined a gym/physical fitness center named Dbody of Wealth because I need to know how to gain muscle properly. I go there five days a week.
What is your height? I’m 5’3″.
When did you start your weight loss journey?
My journey began in 2019, and it took two years to get the weight off.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I learned to never give up. There will always be ups and downs when it comes to losing weight and keeping it off. Life will always throw you a curve ball. I have learned to pray and keep moving.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
We, as mothers, grandmothers, and wives, will make sure that everyone in the family is good and taken care of. However, we forget that we have to take care of ourselves so we can be healthy enough to live. We are important, too.

Congratulations. You look amazing. I know you feel great. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2007 and lost 125 pounds. I have maintained my weight loss. People tend to think it’s easy but it’s not. Continue to stay focused and you will be alright. Praying for your continued success
