Transformation of the Day: Somer lost 100 pounds. Her wakeup call came when she was diagnosed with pre-diabetes at 23 years old. She transitioned from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle and learned the value of sacrifice and hard work. Check out her story.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey in September 2016.
What was your motivation?
At 23 years old and 275 pounds, my doctor told me that I was pre-diabetic. That was when I knew I had to make a change, because I was literally killing myself with my unhealthy lifestyle.
I’ve lost 102 pounds. Now, I’m sitting at 175 pounds (height: 5’8″). I did it on my own. No trainer, no “lose weight quick” diets and no surgery. I’m healthier and happier then I’ve ever been.
it!!
How did you chagne your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by taking it one day at a time. I stopped eating sweets (like candy, soda, or cakes) and bad carbs (like bread and pasta). To lose the bulk of my weight, I stuck to my own, personal meal plan, which consists of 5 small meals, lean meats, greens and no dairy. I wasn’t hard on myself just because I didn’t stick to my meal plan one day.
What did your workout routine look like?
My workouts were mainly cardio at first. Then, once I lost about 30 pounds, I added weight lifting. Currently, I work out 5 days a week. On about 2-3 of those days, I add cardio but everyday I do some type of weightlifting.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned thus far is that I can literally do anything I put my mind to if I want it bad enough.
What advice would you share with people who want to lose weight?
My advice to others trying to lose weight is to NEVER stop. Never think it’s too hard, and never think you’re not worth it. Your health is worth fighting for. Your happiness is worth the sacrifice.
