Siani lost 50 pounds. She wanted to look good, but as a Nurse, she also wanted to be a better example to her patients. The Noom program helped her make better food choices and track her intake.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was vanity. I was tired of what I saw in the mirror every day. I’m a nurse, so how can I tell my patients to eat well when I’m not. I was pre-diabetic as well.
I also love anime and cosplay, so I wanted to look good in my costumes. Health was secondary.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
Honestly, my biggest inspiration was this page [Black Women Losing Weight]. I check it every day and read every story.
How did you change your eating habits?
I used an app called Noom that tracks my intake and steps. I cut out soda completely and increased my intake of fruits and vegetables, I only count calories, and I don’t do keto (I like fruit too much).
What did your workout routine look like? How often did you workout?
To be honest, I don’t work out. The most I do is walk to my mailbox.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 245 pounds, and my current weight is 195 pounds.
What is your height?
5’5″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started on 12/1/19, and it took me about six months.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I actually have a failed Lap-Band from 2014. I gained 40 pounds after having the procedure, so I don’t contribute it to my current success.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson would be that you can eat anything you want. Just use portion control, and track your calories. My weight loss path requires a lot of discipline.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Do it because you want to. This process has to be focused on you in order for it to work.
