Shneika recently lost 6 pounds and lots of inches off of her midsection. She worked with a coach, practiced portion control, and worked out using at-home exercise programs. She no longer uses a scale to track her progress. Instead, she focuses on how her body looks. She’s actually lost a total of 70 lbs since 2017.
Your WHY has to be big enough for YOU to reach your goals. I didn’t get serious about my journey until December 2018. I was fed up with me, and I kept looking for quick fixes, such as fad diets. I even thought about having weight loss surgery. I did my research followed up with my insurance company. However, I decided that I wanted to give myself another chance to do it myself. I wanted to prove to myself that I was in control, and if this didn’t work, on the operating table I’d go. I didn’t have surgery because I knew I was capable of doing what needed to be done.
By 2019, I’d lost over 50 pounds, but I still struggled. I know you’re like “struggled?” Yes, I kept saying, “If I had someone to workout with me, I’d be good.” Do you know what happened when my workout partner and I didn’t feel like working out? WE didn’t. At that point, I knew I had to connect with some folks who had overcome what I was trying to overcome. That’s when I finally connected with Coach Ebony Cornish in December 2019. I could go on and on about this beautiful soul. Because of her, I now have a better understanding of how the MIND works when you’re on your weight loss journey.
Weight in 2017: 296 pounds
Starting weight in 2019: 232 pounds
Current weight: 226 pounds
I don’t use the scale much to track my results. I focus on my body/goal shape.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I wanted to get past the point of inconsistency. In the past, I would start a program for a week or so and then stop. I had to prove to myself that I can do this. I will not give up because I am depending on me. I will no longer let myself down.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by following the portion control guidelines from Beachbody. I prepare my food differently now. Instead of frying chicken in grease, I air fry my wings. Instead of sugar in my coffee, I use Skinny syrup (a 0 calorie and 0 sugar sweetener).
What is your workout routine?
My workouts consisted of Beachbody programs such as MM100 and Cize. During MM100, I worked out every day for 100 days. With Cize, I worked out six days a week.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I have learned is that when motivation goes away, you have to be self-disciplined.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
No matter which route you take, consistency is KEY. Also, make sure your WHY is big enough. During hard times, your WHY is going to remind you that you can’t give up!
If you don’t work on changing your mindset you will keep repeating the same old bad habits. How do I know? I’ve BEEN THERE and DONE THAT for years! That’s not me anymore. I am now a Coach, and I’m here to help others like myself to start their journey!
