Shawnna lost 30 pounds. She is a burn survior, and this journey has helped her learned how to love herself again and prioritize self-care. Cutting out junk food and soda and working out 4-5 days a week is really working for her.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My Motivation: Learning how to practice self-care and love myself “again” to get my confidence back (burn survivor).
How did you change your eating habits?
My eating habits changed, but I didn’t use a specific diet program. Instead, I was more mindful of what I ate and cut way back on junk, sweets, fast food, fried food, and soda. I am still struggling with being more consistent with cleaner meals and meal prepping (This is my 2021 goal, lol).
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work?
I try to be in the gym 4-5 day a week, mostly focusing on weight lifting and HIIT. I do cardio twice a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
247 pounds was my highest weight, and my current weight is 217 pounds.
What is your height?
5’11”
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
My journey started in April 2017, and it was on and off. I was able to lose almost 20 pounds doing a Crossfit six-week challenge. After the challenge was over, I continued to go. Then, after a couple of months, I stopped going altogether.
Fast forward to August 2020 (when the gyms re-opened after the Covid closures), and I have been consistent with the “mindset” of getting back on track! I’m focused on creating a healthier lifestyle. This is year four! I’ve had many setbacks.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
DO NOT COMPARE YOUR JOURNEY TO ANYONE ELSE’S! We are all different.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Your circle is everything. I firmly believe my accountability team (genuine friends who want to see the best version of me) and my kids are what keeps me focused and going!
Know that no matter how many times you feel like you’ve failed or you face a setback, you can ALWAYS bounce back. This is a journey, and it takes time, commitment, dedication, and discipline.
