Transformation of the Day: Shantiqua lost 127 pounds. This mother of three released the weight by being consistent and making her health a top priority. Working out, tracking her calories, and eating low carb foods worked for her.
I started my journey in 2018 after my daughter was born. My postpartum weight was over 300 pounds. I was already very hard on myself about my eating habits. The way I looked and felt seeing that number on the scale just made me determined to make a change.
During my weight loss journey, I had another baby. (I lost 50 pounds before I got pregnant again.) All three of my kids were C-section babies.
It took about two years to get to my goal weight, and I’m so happy I made this change. By staying consistent and fighting for my health, I was able to lose over 100 pounds.
What was your motivation?
My primary motivation is my kids. I have a 1-year-old, a 3-year-old, and a 7-year-old. The amount of energy they have is crazy. There was no way I would have been able to keep up.
How did you change your eating habits?
I completely cut out bread, soda, juice, rice, candy, and pasta. I also made sure that I stayed under 1300 calories per day. It wasn’t easy at all, but I eventually found low carb versions of foods, like bread, pasta, and chips.
On the days that I needed something sweet, I would make sure it was something small, like a mini KitKat or a mini snicker, or I would have a Diet Coke or Snapple.
What does your workout routine consist of? How often did you workout?
Most of my workouts were cardio. Sometimes I would incorporate weight training into my workout. Now I’m working more on weight training due to my extra skin.
I would work out four times a week because I have young children. I just made sure to workout consistently, even if it was only for 30 minutes.
What is your current weight?
SW: 300 (282 before baby)
CW: 173 pounds
What is your height?
My height is 5’9″.
Is weight loss surgery or skin removal surgery part of your journey?
Skin removal is something I have been thinking of getting. I plan to schedule an appointment sometime soon.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
One of my biggest lessons is don’t be so hard on yourself. Even though I lost 100+ pounds, I still stress over what I like about my body. Remember, you are beautiful.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice is to start small. Start with small goals and be realistic. Once you reach those goals, then set new ones.

I’m not trying to be negative but I was a lil confused when u said u gave up bread, pasta, candy rice but you found low carbs like bread, pasta and chips. Did u go from say white bread to wheat bread, pasta? If I need to switch to wheat, I will. Congrats tho, you look great😊

Diane, you did not ask me, but I have experienced the same with low carb pasta for example. I used to eat regular pasta, now I do chick pea pasta, lower carbs than regular. Also, your comment was not negative! Keep on your journey and stay encouraged 👍😘
