Update Oct 16, 2016 – “Hello! I just wanted to give BWLW an update on my story. I just competed in my 4th figure competition on Oct 8th. I came in 7th place in my class. I put on 20 pounds of muscle and I currently weigh 150 pounds. I’m still eating clean and working out. I’m also still working to inspire, motivate others. The after photo is my recent picture from the competition last weekend.”
Oct 2015 – Transformation of the Day: Shannon lost 60 pounds and transformed her body. At 39 years old, she decided that she would be fit at 40 and cast off depression and low self esteem. She learned about effective fitness and nutrition through an awesome local boot camp and great trainers. Now, she is a personal trainer and NPC figure competitor. Here is what she shared with us about what she did to achieve results…
My weight loss journey began in February 2013. I was 39 years old and I told myself after coming back from my birthday trip to Miami that by the time I turned 40, I wanted to look and feel different. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired and just complaining about the way I looked. My workouts were inconsistent workouts, and I was not seeing any real results. The partying, drinking alcohol, poor eating habits, low self esteem, suicide attempt and depression I suffered from a prior 5 year abusive relationship left me wanting to transform my life for the better. I heard about Denise Bryers Boot Camp Cincinnati on Facebook and started attending sessions on Feb 28, 2013. I attended every single session and began seeing results immediately. I learned about effective fitness and nutrition through the boot camp.
My main focus when i started working out was just to lose a little weight. When I started in 2013, I weighed 198 pounds (height: 5’8″), but after I started losing the weight I became interested in taking my fitness to the next level and began personal training with Denise. From February 2013 to now, I have lost about 60 pounds, and my passion for weight training ultimately led me to compete in my very first NPC Figure Competition October 2014, where I placed 4th in Pure Novice and 4th in Open Figure class D. In April 2015, I competed in my 2nd competition and placed 4th in Open Figure Class D and 5th in Masters Figure Over 40. I have also competed in my 3rd show this past June 2015. I will be competing again in 2016. I am now 42 years old, it took me about 2 1/2 years to get to where I am now.
Eating Habits: I changed my eating habits by cutting out alcohol (completely), processed foods and restaurant foods. I started eating more baked foods, chicken, turkey cutlets, fish and incorporating more green vegetables and fruits. I also started drinking at least a gallon of water and meal prepping every Sunday. I cook my food for the week and take my food with me everywhere I go.
Workout Routine: My workouts with Denise Bryers Bootcamp involved fat burning cardio and strength exercises. After 9 months of Bootcamp I started personal training, incorporating lifting weights with Denise. I work out 7 days a week (cardio/weight train), 5 of those days a week I weight train. Although I work out everyday, diet is the most important component of weight loss.
In addition to my career in Information Technology as a Technical Support Rep, I train clients and coordinate a free Walk/Jog/Run (WJR) group that meets about 3-4 times a week. I enjoy helping people reach their goals and I encourage others with my favorite motto, “trust the process”, which was instilled in me at the beginning of my journey and still throughout my journey. Weight loss is not an easy process, it requires patience, dedication and consistency. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it!
