Transformation of the Day: Shaniqua lost 121 pounds. At 400+ pounds, this young lady’s weight was hindering her ability to enjoy the things she loves. By making exercise a part of her daily routine and by breaking up with junk food and soda, she has released the weight. Check out her story.
What was your motivation?
I was tired of being too big to do things I loved at such a young age (Between 23 and 24 years old at the time).
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by giving up pop and junk food. I was a lover of chips and candy. Now, I drink lots of water and bake most of my food. I enjoy yogurt, fruits, and veggies. I absolutely love mushrooms, salmon, and chicken salads. I switch things up by trying different seasonings, and trying new, healthy foods so I won’t get bored. For example, I eat tortilla bread in place of white bread.
What did your workout routine look like?
I was determined so I started going to the gym three days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I did this every week for about a year. I used various machines at the gym, such as the triceps machine and biceps machine. I also did dumbbell squats. I also walked every day for about 2 hours a day (for about 3 miles a day).
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My current weight is 299 pounds. My weight in the before picture is 420 pounds. To God be the glory. I have more energy. I’m more happy and confident as well.
When did you start your jounrey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in November 2015 and it’s taken me 2 and a half years.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that the weight will come on easy, but it is hard to get off.
What advice would you share with other women who want to lose weight?
Realize that you are beautiful whether you lose weight or not. Don’t let losing weight make you feel like you are beautiful. You were beautiful from the start. The best reasons to lose weight are for your health, for your family and for your confidence. Decide on the right reason to lose weight that works for you. Don’t do it for a man or to get back at someone who did you wrong. Do it for a better YOU.
