Transformation of the Day: Shanika lost 88 pounds. She gained a significant amount of weight while on bed rest during two pregnancies. She’s been on her journey since May 2019, and she shared that no other plan she’s tried has worked as well as going Keto.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My children were (and still are) my motivation. I want to be here for them as long as I possibly can.
After two stressful pregnancies back to back, I gained 60+ pounds due to long term bed rest. I’ve lost 88 pounds with the Keto diet and minimal exercise.
Whenever I wanted to give up, I just looked at the old picture of me hanging on my refrigerator, and I would immediately change my mind about partaking in those bad eating habits again. The photo was taken when I was at my heaviest weight of nearly 300 pounds.
How did you change your eating habits?
I followed the Keto diet. No other diet program has ever worked for me except Keto. I completely eliminated soda, sugar, bread, pasta (you know, the good stuff) from my diet, and the weight just started falling off.
What did your workout routine consist of?
At first, I was simply walking around the house or around my neighborhood. Ultimately, my workout routine increased to cardio and strength training workouts via Bob Harper on YouTube.
How often did you workout?
The good thing about Keto is that exercise is almost not required, BUT to maximize my results, I worked out 3 to 4 times a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 288 pounds. My current weight is a solid 200 pounds.
What is your height?
My height is 5 ft, 7 inches.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey in May 2019.
How long did your transformation take?
It took about nine months to lose 88 pounds.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I have learned is that I can do anything I put my mind to. I have also learned that change is not only physical but spiritual and emotional.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
I would say, stay focused and don’t beat yourself if you fail. What matters is that you get back on keep going.
