Transformation of the Day: Shaneequa lost 112 pounds. Due to the weight gain that she experienced due to Hypothyroidism, she decided to have Gastric Sleeve surgery. Her motivation is her children. She wants to live a long, healthy life and see them grow up and thrive.
My name is Shaneequa, and I’m from Brooklyn. I want to share my journey to help other women who are going through weight gain. I started my journey on February 24, 2021. I had Gastric Sleeve surgery because I was diagnosed with a condition called Hypothyroidism. I was gaining so much weight and eating non-stop.
I never knew eating so healthy could be so good. I am so happy, and my eating habits are changed forever. I still have my condition, but I’m losing weight, eating my vegetables, and eating small portions because I get full very fast.
Starting Weight/Current Weight
I weighed 330 pounds, and my current weight is 218 pounds. 112lbs gone forever! However, I’m not done yet. My goal weight is 190lbs. I have zero regrets. I would definitely do it all over again.
What was your motivation?
I did this for myself and my kids. Every time I look at my kids, I say to myself, “They deserve a healthy mother to watch them grow up and have their own family someday.” Now I can run and play with my kids without stopping every minute. I’m not out of breath anymore.
I love going outdoors more and cooking for my family. I love dancing, walking up the stairs, and not taking the elevator. I also love going for walks.
I am very happy and loving myself each and every day. I just celebrated my 1yr Surgery Anniversary, and I’ve kept the weight off. I have loose skin, but so what. I embrace all of me, including my loose skin. I dress up more, whether I’m going out or not.
How did your eating habits change?
I don’t eat pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, chips, or cakes. I don’t drink soda, sugar, or juice. I have a protein bar or protein shake if I want a snack. Also, I don’t eat pork or red meat anymore. Instead, I eat fish, eggs, baked chicken, and no fried foods at all. I switched to a high protein diet.
What is your workout routine?
I work out four days a week, and I love every minute.
What is your height?
My height is 5’5
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned a lot from this weight loss journey. It helped me eat much healthier small portions. Also, I don’t ever take life for granted. Weight loss surgery saved my life. I no longer snore, and my body is not in pain. I’m much happier and healthier.
What advice would you like to share?
The advice I want to share with women who have weight problems and are scared to do the surgery: Just get up, have faith in yourself, and do it. Don’t give up on yourself. Life is precious.
Believe in yourself. You are beautiful, you are loved, and you are enough. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. You deserve to have a great healthy life. But, most importantly, your kids need you.
It’s your time to shine. It’s your turn to be happy.
