Transformation of the Day: Shananthia lost 51 pounds. She gained 51 pounds, and her weight went up and down for several years. In June 2020, she decided to try Keto, and that choice has truly paid off. She learned that you have to do the work of your transformation journey in your own way and on your own time.
I battled between 128-135 for as long as I can remember…to gaining over 51 pounds. The first before picture on the left was from 2018. For the past three years, my weight had been up and down. I was losing weight but still wasn’t satisfied because I was so used to looking a certain way.
I started Keto in June 2020. Within a month, I had lost 14 pounds. Seeing results was the best feeling. I stayed consistent for about 5-6 months STRAIGHT.
Here we are in September 2021, I’m down 51 pounds, and it feels incredible! Although I still limit myself to a lot of foods, I’m not strictly on Keto. Instead, I watch my intake and try to maintain my weight. The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is to lose weight On YOUR OWN TIME because no matter what you do or how you look, people will have something to say. One minute you’re “fat,” next minute you’re “too skinny.” You’ll never be satisfied trying to please the next person. Lose weight for yourself, and not because of what others think about your image.
What was your motivation?
My birthday motivated me, as crazy as this might sounds. The only birthday gift I wanted for myself was to get back to my normal self and regain the confidence that I had before my weight gain. I knew how bad I wanted this, so I went out and got it. Although I had only lost 14 pounds within a month by my birthday, it was enough for me to say I did it!
Did you have a daily goal for grams of carbs on Keto?
I would stay under 20 carbs a day because I wanted to drop the weight faster. (I wouldn’t recommend 20 grams, but you could do 30 grams of carbs.)
What was your workout routine?
I would walk and run at least three times a week for an hour for the first four months. You can and will lose weight just by cutting out carbs and going Keto. However, working out is something extra you can do as well.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 185 pounds, and I currently weigh 134 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’10”.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started Keto in June 2020. My transformation took five months.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I did not have weight loss surgery.
What advice would you like to share?
If someone you know has gained weight. Keep your “You been eating good.”, “Omg, you got big/chubby.” or “You got thick.” comments to yourself. You NEVER know what a person is going through. Try to motivate and uplift them. We know how we used to look vs. how we look now. No one likes to be reminded of their weight gain. Be careful what you say about people because those tables can turn REAL QUICK. I was that person on the other side once.
