Shaluanda lost 40 pounds. She felt unhappy and her self-esteem was low, but no more. This mom has taken control of her health and her weight with a Keto lifestyle, exercise and a positive mindset. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was how unhappy I had become. I didn’t want to get dressed. I felt fat and ugly all the time. My stomach hung over all my jeans, so I had to always wear something to cover or hide it. I also hated vacationing because I felt so uncomfortable with all the fit beautiful people around…and then there was me. So, I decided that it was time for a change. When I wanted to give up, I reminded myself that I could go back to feeling depressed, unattractive and having self esteem that was non-existent. That is the worst feeling ever.
How did you change your eating habits?
Slowly but surely, I cut all sugars and ate minimal carbs (20g a day), mainly in the form of veggies. The Keto lifestyle was the best info I could have stumbled upon. It was a tough transition at first, but I stuck it out. I call it a lifestyle because it’s not a diet or a quick fix. You need to be mentally ready or you will fail. (I almost gave up and embraced the weight)
What did your workout routines look like?
I worked out 4 times a week, sometimes twice a day. I did 30-45 minutes of cardio and 30 mins of weight training.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 237 pounds and my current weight is 197 pounds…and dropping still. I am 5 feet, 1 inch tall.
How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey on March 20, 2016. I lost my first 20 pounds by May 20, 2016. Since then I have lost another 20 pounds. 40 lbs total so far and working hard to continue to lose.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
My advice: Don’t give up. It is so worth it in the end. At 25 years old, I was diagnosed with high cholesterol. Back then, I couldn’t use the bathroom for days. I had to use laxatives to go because the medicine was stopping me. I was backed up so long that I went toxic. At the time, that was enough for me to decide that my health and seeing my babies grow up was way more important. It’s a battle but it doesn’t have to end if you fall off course. Get back up and start again. Whatever you do, don’t give up because it can be done.
