Transformation of the Day: Shakayla lost 50 pounds. When she needed the motivation to push herself on this journey, all she had to do was think of her two year old daughter. She found that a plant-based diet coupled with tough workouts was the perfect combination for her body transformation.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in 2017 after I gave birth to my daughter. My transformation took almost three years.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My motivation for losing weight is my two year old daughter, Avah. I knew I had to get the weight off so I could be the best I could be for her. She is full of so much life and energy. I wanted to be just as energetic as she is.
When I wanted to give up, I always reminded myself of why I started in the first place, and that would make me go even harder. I can remember times in the gym when I was dead tired and wanted to give up, but I would picture my daughter, and it would push me even harder.
How did you change your eating habits?
Eating is definitely the thing I think most people struggle with the most. I had specific goals, so I hired a coach to help me out, and that decision changed my life and the way I look at food. I gave up meat and dairy. I went completely vegan and never looked back. I followed a meat and dairy-free meal plan of five meals per day consisting of vegan burgers, jasmine Rice, lots of veggies, rice cakes, and protein shakes.
What did your workout routine look like? How often did you workout?
My workout routines were brutal and pushed me beyond my limits every single day. I worked out six times per week. I did strength training and cardio all six days. My cardio was always 50 minutes to an hour-long, with 30 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the stair master doing circuits. I would follow that with an additional hour and a half of weight lifting. Like I said, BRUTAL!
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight in the 1st photo was 200 pounds. I currently weigh 150 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’4″.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I didn’t have any surgery to lose weight.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson has been that nutrition is key to weight loss, and consistency is so important.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Focus on nutrition! Most of us are in the gym working out but eating terribly when we get home. Remember, you can’t outwork a bad diet. If your diet is lacking, you won’t see any results. I see this issue way too often. Nutrition is everything. Being consistent with both your eating habits as well as your workouts is vital. We really mean it when we say that Consistency is Key!!
