Transformation of the Day: Shadae lost 52 pounds. After she was diagnosed with diabetes, she was truly motivation to make some changes. She decided to go low carb, and when she took that a step further with Keto, she got great results. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation?
What motivated me to lose weight was being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
How long did your transformation take?
I’ve been on my journey for a long time, but finally got serious in December 2017.
How did you change your eating habits?
As a result of being diagnosed a diabetic, I cut out a lot of carbs. In June 2017, one of my co-workers introduced me to the Keto diet. I did my research on it first before I actually tried it. On Keto, I noticed my blood sugar levels decreased back to normal readings after I ate. When I went back to get my normal check up at my primary care doctor, my A1C level went down 3 percent.
The foods that I eat almost everyday are apples, doesn’t matter what color. I grab an apple for breakfast or a banana in moderation. Sometimes, I eat oatmeal with no sugar. For lunch, I stick to baked chicken and some type of low carb vegetable, like broccoli or cauliflower. For dinner, I usually drink a protein shake or I eat something lite, like a salad with fruit or just plain cold cuts. I try to at least eat 1200 calories a day.
What did your workout routine look like?
I started working out at least 30 mins a day by walking. Two times a week, I went to the gym where I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes of weight training.
What was your starting weight and what is your current weight?
My highest weight was 280 pounds. My current weight is 228 pounds. I’m only 4 feet, 10 inches tall.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lessons I’ve learned on this journey so far is to never give up and that consistency is the key.
What advice would you give to other people who want to lose weight?
My advice is to remember that you didn’t gain all the weight overnight, so it’s gonna take time to lose it!
