Update Dec 2018: Ruth has released 10 more pounds for a total of 70 pounds gone.
Happy one year update! Hello BWLW 👋🏾 Since you last shared my story back in October 2017, I’ve dropped another 10 pounds with consistency and proper nutrition. I workout 6 times a week. I’ve become a pescatarian since Oct 2017 as well. I strength train 4 times week, and I do an hour of HIIT twice a week (with one rest day). My starting weight was 220 pounds and my current weight is 150 pounds.
Transformation of the Day: Ruth lost 60 pounds. At the end of her twenties, she decided that it was time to change course and focus on her health. Kickboxing, working with a trainer and going Paleo produced the results she’d been dreaming of for years. Check out her story.
I struggled with losing weight during my entire 20s. During the last year of my 20s, I decided to make a change. I didn’t start my weight loss journey just to change my physical appearance. More importantly, I did it for my health.
I started my workout routine by walking for at least 30 minutes each day. I adopted a Paleo diet as well. I cut out all sugary foods and drinks. I eat lots of steamed vegetables and grilled or baked protein: salmon, chicken, tilapia and turkey mostly. I eat fruit and unsalted nuts as well. For breakfast, I eat oatmeal, meal replacement shakes, fruit ,and sometimes boiled eggs with avocado. Of course, I treat myself sometimes but I do it in moderation.
I usually have protein shakes before and after my workouts with whey protein preferably. I also make homemade smoothies for breakfast or snack. I drink 16-24 glasses of water a day to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated is very important, especially when trying to lose weight.
After 3 months of basic cardio and going Paleo, I developed an interest and passion for kickboxing and took classes six times a week. A month after I signed up for kickboxing, I decided to sign up at my local gym and hired a personal trainer for strength training. These days, I’m doing strength training 2 times a week and kickboxing 4 times a week.
My weight loss journey began in January 2017 at 220 pounds. Now, I weigh 160 pounds (height: 5’6″). I’m still pushing to lose 15-20 more pounds, and I’m working on toning my physique. Now, my goal is to help others reach their goals. I want to help people to believe that they can reach their goals as long as they put their minds to it.
