Transformation of the Day: Roxanne lost 65 pounds. This awesome mother lost her daughter to a heart condition and fought for custody of her grandson. At the same time, she was dealing with several other life challenges, and the pounds piled up as a result. By focusing on nutrition and lots of exercise, she’s been able to get healthier for herself and her family. Check out her journey.
My name is Roxanne Y. and I would like to share my story. My motivation was my daughter. She died at the age of 22 from a heart condition. She left me with her son and I knew I needed to change my life to be here for him. I fought for custody of my grandson, because I knew he needed the that stability I could provide. I was also let go from my job, and at the same time my relationship was quickly unraveling. During this time, I just got fatter and fatter, but I really didn’t realize it!
I wanted to get healthy for my grandson and for myself. Actually, I wanted to get healthy for revenge as well. I was inspired by looking at old pictures of myself. Looking at my face in those old photos, I saw the expression of somebody I didn’t know anymore. I wanted to get back to her.
When I cut out the soda, cut out the sweets and ate better, I saw a moderate loss. Later, I was introduced to Herbalife shakes and supplements and they were so easy to use. I didn’t have to think about the food and I focused on working out. I cut sugar, limited bread, increased my veggies and scaled way back on red meat. Now I eat a lot of grilled chicken and fish.
I do 30 minutes of cardiovascular; the elliptical or treadmill on a high incline. Then, I focus on a particular area using various strength training machines to target those areas. I do arms and abs, leg day and so on. I pop into the pool or take a Zumba class every now and again to mix things up and just added spinning class into my routine to add spice! I work out 4 to 5 times a week for an hour to an hour and a half.
I weighed 262 pounds in the beginning and now I weigh 197 pounds. I’m 5’6″. I began my transformation in July 2015, got serious in October and never looked back.
My advice is invest in yourself. Put all your pain, your desire and everything you have into your workout. People say losing weight is expensive, but buying bigger clothes or medicine for serious health issues is more expensive. I’ve actually saved money and I’ve become a heath and wellness coach. I enjoy working with people at all different levels of fitness to get back to their healthier selves and then some. I also suggest getting on a good nutritional program. If you feed your body it will work for you and the weight will fall off! Diets don’t work, this is a lifestyle change.
Stand naked in the mirror and have your come to Jesus moment with your body. Embrace what you like and fix what you don’t. Set small goals for yourself and put the scale away. You only need to weigh yourself once a month. Go by how your clothes fit instead. Love yourself, embrace the change and live your best life.
