Transformation of the Day: Riana lost 80 pounds. Self love and self respect is what motivated her to start her journey. A friend suggested that she focus on eating the healthy foods she liked and that she try going low carb. One year later, the healthy habits she embraced have turned into a new lifestyle. Check out her story.
I’ve lost 80 pounds and I have 20 more to go. I was tired of being overweight and not being healthy. Getting advice from a friend, I started a low carb diet and began working out 3-4 times a week. These healthy habits have become my lifestyle.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
Self love and Self respect is what inspired me to start this journey… and not to give up. I’ve struggled with my weight for 6 years. It was the one thing in my life that I could not control. Before I started the physical part of this journey, eating and working out, I prayed for strength, guidance and consistency.
How did you change your eating habits?
A friend on mine came to me with some ideas about healthy foods that I love to eat, to help me jumpstart to my healthy eating transition. My favorite food is seafood, so I started pairing that with vegetables only. I still had the satisfaction of having food that I loved, just in a healthier way. From there, everything clicked. I did not feel like I was starving myself. I mostly follow the KETO diet, eating lots of protein and veggies. My beverages would be black coffee, water or green tea.
What did your workout routines look like?
I focus on 80% cardio, because I want to slim down, and 20% strength training for toning.
Starting weight/Current weight
My highest weight was 234 pounds. My starting weight was 225 pounds and my current weight is 154 pounds. My height is 5’4″.
How long did your transformation take?
I started on April 2, 2016. I am 1 week away from my 1 year anniversary. Majority of my weight loss happened over a 10 month period.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
I would first say that you have to mentally prepare yourself and find the spiritual strength. The power of the mind will help you conquer the physical.
