Weight Loss Story of the Day: Rebecca lost 55 pounds. This busy mom of 2 was inspired by other mom who were super busy but made time for fitness and wellness. She decided to take action to create a healthier lifestyle. Here is what she shared with us about her weight loss journey…
What was your motivation?
I wanted to stop feeling sorry for myself. I wanted to be more positive and have energy. I was sleeping a lot, eating way too much sugar. I also couldn’t fit any of my clothes. I gained all this weight from being depressed and I said to myself this has to end. My motivation was to live a healthier, more positive, happy life.
I was inspired by other moms who were working, going to school, and taking care of their kids too. If they could find the time, then I could find the time. I work 3 jobs, have 2 kids and want to finish nursing school. I need energy and to be fit for whatever comes my way. I also wanted to be able to keep up with my kids. Mommy is no fun if she’s always down and tired.
How did you change your eating habits?
It was hard at first and I still a struggle at times. I cut out fried foods and started drinking more water and tea. I slowly cut back on snacks, and sweets. I would watch what I ate, meaning portion control. Then I started adding more greens, veggies and fruit to my diet and less rice and pasta. My family is Haitian so we eat rice for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and I love it. I now eat it once a week, maybe twice. I was never a fan of soda or sugary drinks. The biggest help was packing my lunch for work. There is no reason to eat fast food or junk if you packed something you like. Later on, I started drinking protein shakes and adding a variety of fruits to my diet. I love kale, so I eat a lot of that. Protein shakes were hard to drink at first but I started adding fruit to make them taste better. I limit my carbs, which means no carbs after 6 pm. I make fruit smoothies for snacks and drink green tea twice a day.
What did your workout routines look like?
My workouts started out at 3 days a week. After getting use to working out, I would go to the gym 5 days a week. I do cross fit, boxing, and strength training. I do cardio after every workout or before for 30 minutes. I’m always looking to try new things so I don’t get bored.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My start weight was 240 pounds. I currently weigh 185 pounds. I’m 5’8″ tall
How long did your transformation take?
I started mid October 2014, so it took about 7 – 8 months.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight.
Take your time and be patient. It takes time and you don’t want to lose too much too quick. Don’t worry about the number on scale. Stay consistent and motivated. I would be discouraged when the number wasn’t moving fast enough. I thought to myself “well I like working out so I’ll just keep at it even if nothing changes soon, it will eventually”. I love working up a good sweat, the energy, the stress relief, it wasn’t just about losing weight after a while. I made working out of part of my life.
