Update June 2017 – Shout out to Raquel. We’ve been following her story since June 2016 and she’s lost 122 pounds.
Dec 2016: Raquel wrote in to share that she’s lost 58 more pounds for a total of 115 pounds gone.
When you saw me last, I was down 57 pounds. As of today, I am down 115 pounds. Had weight loss surgery last year as my last resort. Some people might say I took the easy way out, but I’ve used my bariatric tool to the best of my advantage since day 1. Now, I’m able to experience more and I’ve bought a one piece for when I start swimming again. I no longer experience asthma attacks and my sleep apnea is gone. I have a whole new outlook on life. – @babygotsleeved
Raquel has lost 57.3 pounds since March 2016 with weight loss surgery, low carb eating and regular exercise. She’s been turning to food for comfort since childhood and that habit morphed into food addiction. The decision to have surgery wasn’t an easy decision, but she says the it was the best decision she’s made. Check out her story.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was that I had an addiction to food that I needed take control of. Since the age of 5 years old, I have always turned to food and emotional eating for comfort. I am turning 30 in November of this year. I felt like I’d waited long enough to take control back over my life. I made the choice to have gastric sleeve weight loss surgery. Some may say that surgery is the easy way out, but for me it wasn’t. It was probably the hardest decision I have ever made, but I am so much healthier now!
How did you change your eating habits?
I had to cut out sweets and I stopped eating out! My diet is low carb/high protein. Now, I eat smaller portions and I’ve drastically reduced the amount of carbs and sugar I consume daily. I focus on eating protein. I also drink as much water as I can throughout the day.
What did your workout routines look like?
I workout least a few times a week. I love to dance and I get my exercise in by doing Zumba or walking. I walk about 2-3 miles a day!
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 333.8 pounds and my current weight is 276 pounds. My height is 5’2″.
How long did your transformation take?
I started the process in March 2016 and I’m still losing weight.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
It can be difficult, but it’s easier if you have a great support system. When you surround yourself with supportive people, it makes the journey worth while.
