Transformation of the Day: Primrose lost 35kg/77 pounds. She was in denial about her weight and overeating. Tired of not being able to wear what she wanted and feeling uncomfortable in her own body, she decided to take action. Check out her 2 year journey.
It all started when I was eating all the wrong foods in larger than life quantities. I started gaining weight but I did not pay attention or notice. Since I started this journey in January 2015, I have lost 35kg.
What was your motivation?
I could not get nice clothes in the local shops at the super size I was wearing. I looked at myself in the mirror after a whole period of denial and realized I had become someone that I did not want to be. I became very uncomfortable in my own body due to my weight. My back started hurting and I could not stand for long periods of time.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
The taste of a little success kept me going. I was started to enjoy the fruits of my hard work and better eating. I also saw the scale going down and my clothes becoming loose. Seeing these results, I told myself that I would not give up. It was difficult, but when I fell I got back up and continued again.
How did you change your eating habits?
First, I must say upfront that I am a lover of rich foods, like creamy white pasta, white bread, etc. I started by removing carbs in my dinner meals. I reduced the quantities I would normally eat by half. I also started eating lots of vegetables, meat and fruits. I would typically have muesli with natural yogurt for breakfast, and brown rice, chicken and mixed veggies for lunch. I’d have almonds to snack on and a salad in the evenings. I started drinking at least 2 liters of water per day swell. I totally stopped eating white bread and pasta. If I fell off course with my eating habits, I got back up.
What did your workout routine look like?
I did mainly cardio workouts. I joined a local gym and I religiously went to gym 5 days a week from 6am to 7am. I would do Zumba once a week and resistance training once a week. I also tried boxing at some point and that really worked for me. I boxed twice a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
The first day I decided to change and went to the gym, alas I got a shock of my life. I found out that I weighed a good 120kgs (264 pounds). Today, I happily weigh 85kgs (187 pounds). My goal weight is 72kgs (158 pounds), so I am still at it. I am 1.70cm tall (5’5″)
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Do not give up, no matter how many times you fall. Dust yourself, get back up and start again.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
It is doable, but it will not be easy. You have to be dedicated and you have to want IT. Do it for yourself.
