Transformation of the Day: Precious lost 54 pounds/24kg by focusing on her eating habits. Our Nigerian sister was abused by a family member who insulted her weight, but she turned pain into triumph. After a warning from her doctor, she knew she had to focus on her health. So, with the help of a friend, she committed to a low-carb lifestyle.
My name is Precious, and I’m from Nigeria. I came across your page and was so inspired by the stories that I decided to share mine.
Being overweight has a different effect on different people. For some, the result is instant, and for others, it takes time to manifest.
All my life, I have always struggled with weight. This issue has cost me a lot in terms of relationships with family and friends, especially my dad. He would constantly abuse me verbally and hit me when he could because I was fat. I got used to being put down so much that I wore it like a badge.
Eventually, I didn’t allow abuse from anyone to get to me because what didn’t kill me made me stronger.
Fast forward to late July 2021: I weighed 287 pounds/130kg, the biggest I have ever been. I started having a series of health challenges due to Osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, and many other health concerns. The last time I visited the doctor, he stated bluntly, “lose weight or else!”
That was it for me. The fact that I could literally die shocked me into action. The journey to better living has not been easy, and on many occasions, I felt like giving up, but when I remember the many people who said I could never lose weight, I keep pushing.
A friend of mine, Vivian Nwugo, lost a massive amount of weight on a Keto diet, so I sought her help. She was very instrumental in my weight loss and was always there to encourage me.
I quit eating rice, pasta, potatoes, and many other high-calorie foods, including high sugar foods and carbonated drinks. Instead, I swapped most of those foods for low-calorie options like broccoli, cauliflower, squash, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, spinach, zucchini, cucumbers, etc. I never worked out during this time because I was too busy at work, but lately, I have started taking slow walks and dancing when I can.
As I mentioned earlier, my starting weight was 287lbs/130kg. I lost a total of 50.7lbs/23kg within four months of dieting alone.
I currently weigh 233lbs/106kg which is still far from my goal of 176lbs/80kg. However, I am so appreciative of my little win. My height is 5ft 8.
Since I have embarked on this weight loss journey, I have learned to be patient with myself, enjoy the little wins, remain persistent, and get up anytime I fall.
To women struggling with weight issues, I say you are not alone, so be kind to yourself. The road to weight loss is not easy, but you can achieve your goals if you stay consistent and keep trying every day. Step by Step, little by little, small becomes big. I did it, and I’m still doing it, so I know you can too.
